Because this dude really should have wrapped up Theon Greyjoy and left him on Keanu's doorstep with a pile of money and a new puppy. Then he and Mayhem could keep on keeping on.
I really want to see this movie. It got surprisingly good reviews, and I say "surprisingly" because folks declared Keanu Reeves' career dead about 15 years ago.

It's good. Bloody as fuck but gooooooooooood. It's better than the Equalizer and I loooooooved the Equalizer.
Trigger warning: They kill Keanu's puppy. It's about ten minutes in and OMG, the worst.

Isn't that actually what sets him off for purposes of the entire story? I thought I read that it wasn't just gratuitous violence. Either way, I want to see this. I have a soft spot for Keanu. I'm not sure why except that critics have kicked the shit out of him for so long and I adore a good comeback story.

Yup. His wife died of cancer and arranged to have a puppy delivered to him after she was gone. And then Theon gets stupid and you can guess the rest but it's goooooooood.

Yep, twice. It's fucking awesome. Keanu is back! I can't wait for the sequel. I also loved The Equalizer! Denzel and Keanu need to team up in a movie together.

The dog death put me in a bad mood for the whole movie, it was too harsh for me especially

The first 10 minutes sucked, but the rest of the movie was awesome. The assassin's world was pretty unrealistic but they took the concept and ran all the way with it which made it very entertaining.

47 Ronin was awful. This makes up for it in spades
My H really wants to see this and I have a strong thing about animal deaths in movies. It messes me up for days. If I skip the first part and he tells me when it's safe to come in the room, are there any flashbacks or anything later in the movie of the dog?
If I remember correctly, and hopefully someone will confirm, there are flashbacks of the dog itself but not its death.
Slightly related but A Walk Among the Tombstones was really pretty good too. It wasn't like Taken. Liam Neeson is fabulous in it.
The movie was brilliant. I loved it, and I dont usually like gratuitous violence. Still, revenge flicks are great.
Did you guys know that this is the first movie directed by Keanu's stunt double? They became friends on The Matrix, and had worked together on and off, and it only happened because Keanu supported the guy when he was shipping the movie about.
Also, whether you like his movies or not, Keanu seems brilliant as a person. Not just the stunt double director thing - how little ego must it take to let the guy who used to pretend to be you boss you about as a director? But also the not even bothering to own a house for years, just drive around on a bike and sleep in hotels while doing movies etc.
