I would go with #2 but only because I have 2 dogs (1 elderly) and a toddler so there is a pretty good chance the rug is going to be ruined. If you aren't in a situation where you are concerned about the rug being ruined, go with #1.
I feel like the pattern on #1 is too trendy to justify the money. I had the 2nd rug until my dog ate it. It was nice although it didn't wear well in my house. My friend has the same one and hers is pristine though.
This exactly.
I fear trellis is this year's chevron- the rug is more of an accessory to be swapped out in 5 years when it's looking dated. At that price point, for me anyway, it's an investment piece. I might spend $2K on a Persian.
I would get 2. I never notice quality difference in rugs for that kind of money. I also would not want to scream "Get off my rug" all day long either.
And yeah, Trellis is everywhere. I do love it dearly and have some in my house too but I don't want to be stuck with it for 25 years because I paid 2K for it either.
Disclaimer: I don't know how to shop for rugs really, and do not know what makes one better than another..... but, I saw a bunch of rugs just like both of those on Overstock for way less than $700..... (I'm rug shopping for our living room right now and happened upon them...)

Thanks ladies. I went ahead and ordered it, mainly bc the trellis is pretty trendy right now. It was $611, shipped to my door. Can't really beat the price I don't think!
I have a similar trellis run from Rugs USA. Being tufted instead of knotted, it's, um, easier for my cats to destroy from scratching. But overall, it looks nice, and being trellis, I can replace it in a few years if it gets pretty well worn. To the average eye, it's not going to register as a cheap rug.
