I was using a q-tip last year (I know, i know) and I didn't know my H was home. He walked in and scared the hell out of me. Well, I stabbed my ear drum. It hurt for 5 minutes, but then I was fine. It wasn't until 2 days later that I had an infection. I went to a regular doctor, got medicine, but that did nothing. My pain was so severe I couldn't get out of bed.
It wasn't until I went to see an ENT that I finally got better.
Sometimes, too much moisture can cause pain and dizziness, too (fungal ear infection/"swimmer's ear"). Yeah, I had a rough 2014 with my stupid ear.
It sort of sounds like when I had an inner ear infection. It started out with little bursts of the sea sickness type feeling one day and then the next morning it was constant dizzy/nauseous whenever I'd move my head to the side or stand up. I went to the walk in and got antibiotic and an anti nausea pill. Hope you feel better!

I have vertigo and my ear hurts like you described when I have sinus and allergy problems. I take my meds and that helps so much. I would go see a doctor if it gets bad.
what triggers the vertigo, and how long does it last?
Please be wary of PCP who typically give antibiotics for "fluid" that is often not there, or meds for dizziness that treat the symptom and not the cause. I would go to an ENT if it persists.
I'd definitely see an ENT. it doesn't sound like BPPV or Meneire's to me. I had a chronic inner ear infection years ago that exactly imitated Meneire's in my symptoms, but testing showed nothing. but my vertigo lasted about 30 min-1 hour and it struck at any time of day. it was awful. me and the docs only decided on "chronic inner ear infection" after the fact, when I stopped getting vertigo and losing my hearing after dealing with it for 3 years.
somewhat related: and my ENT and audiologist have told me that I have the cleanest ears they've ever seen and I qtip every other day or so.
The vertigo has only been first thing in the morning upon waking. It lasts maybe 5-10 minutes and i am fine the rest of the day.
Uh oh this is what mine was, but more severe. Instantly upon rising and vomited every morning for over a year. I had bbpv competing with my ms vertigo(which i didn"t know i had)
