40 minutes. DH is driving the neighborhood trying to find where it is.
UPDATE: The cops came. They walked through the house and through the front and back yards, checking. Nobody was home. So they shut the front door and one cop waited in front of the house for awhile in his car. It was late at this point, and we had gone to sleep. This morning, the neighbor's car was there and everything was business as usual. I think the kids walked out of the house without shutting the door all the way and then the wind blew it open.
(I called the cops because it was 10:30 at night, the car was not in the driveway, the door was wide open and the dog was barking his head off. AND it was so cold outside. I hope that somebody would do that for my family. )
Okay, so dh came home and couldn't tell where the dog was. I took a walk around the neighborhood and it was my neighbor's house, around the corner. The front door was wide open and the dog was sitting outside of the door, barking. He started barking like crazy when I walked in front of the house. I called the cops to come and check the house. I don't think anybody was home. Weird.
I think it is weird that you called the cops. I hope things are fine, but the dog you were concerned about was able to go inside at any time, so there was no issue anymore. /shrug

Really? Considering it is not 'leave you door open' weather and the dog was going nuts I would be concerned that someone had broken in/the owner was incapacitated in some way. I would have likely called the non-emergency number if I saw something like this too.

WTF? I guess I'm intrusive because if someone didn't answer and their door was wide open in January, I'd definitely call the cops to see if they were okay.
Yeah, really. Not my style isn't wrong, but it just isn't something that I would do.
I'm glad you're not my neighbor. This is an extremely obvious "call-the-cops" situation.
OK. It could be simple as the person was out last night & not home yet, and the dog got the door open. It's only 8am here, so I'd probably walk by later to see if anyone was home before calling. I am OK with not doing the same as you though, truly.
So some of you, if you saw someone's door wide open and a dog who is sitting there barking and barking, you wouldn't have someone come check to make sure everything is ok?!

This is how people end up on the news, dead for 2 months, and neighbors all "derp, what? neighbors?"
Yes, because going back in an hour is totes that same as 2 months.

This was posted last night, 14 hours ago. Yes, cops needed to be called.

If someone fell and hit their head, an hour is a long time for a brain bleed to go without help. If someone was stabbed/hurt by an intruder an hour is a long time to go without help.
I would absolutely call the cops and I'm kind of stunned that you are holding your ground on this one. Admit you're wrong and move on, or at least stop arguing.

The part that's weird to me about @sobermonkey 's post is that I try to actively discourage friendliness with my neighbors and yet I'd still check on them if it seemed they were in a dicey situation.
HiC was everything ok with the dog and its family?

Good update! I think you absolutely made the right decision and I would love it if a neighbor was looking out for me, my dog and my house like that. Glad everything was okay over there.
