Well, ignoring how gross it is, it just swaps one regulation for another one. Require that they wash their hands, or require that they post a sign that they don't require hand washing - how is that fundamentally different?
DH ran a race that gave him a red, long-sleeved T-shirt (relevant info! I promise!). We decide to go from 'race weekend' to meet up with family at a BBQ joint. The BBQ joint staff is all wearing red T-shirts.
DH finishes his meal, and goes into the Men's room afterward. A guy in the stall yells out "taking a isht!" and DH is like "ooooooooooooooook then". The guy in the stall rushes out quickly and barely runs his hands uinder the water (NO soap) . DH puts it together that 'stall guy' is a worker-bee and was in the bathroom, he then felt like BBQ staff was checking up on him in the bathroom, but NOPE, just another customer who happened to be wearing a red t-shirt that day.
So DH leaves the bathroom and has to flag down a different worker to rat out the guy.
This is stupid and will go no where. The first te an outbreak of Hep A occurs, they'd be all over it, like why didn't that employee wish their hands.
Get out of here with that. I've been in a meeting trying of track down customers after a food borne outbreak. This is not what you want.
I will say he's not the first ridiculous person to suggest that, although that proposal was more like, do we really need to inspect restaurants so much. Um yes, yes we do.
This is what happens when people try to make everything about business, and not protecting the public.
Yes, our government plays a different role than businesses in society. I think this is why, in my mind, a great business man is not the best at making laws or running states/countries.
As John Adams said, "Government is instituted for the common good; for the protection, safety, prosperity, and happiness of the people; and not for profit, honor, or private interest of any one man, family, or class of men; ...."
I read this thinking it was some twit in some state house somewhere, representing like ten people in some rural county, and was like, "Ok so here's a dipshit from east bumblefuck, who cares?"
Then I went back and saw that this is a U.S. Senator. Like, a WHOLE STATE elected this guy to represent them in Washington, D.C.
Christ on a cracker.
Almost makes me want to repeal the 17th amendment.
I have to say, my dad is one of those idiot Glenn Beck supporters, and yet his job is pretty dependent on the existence of OSHA, which is kind of weird if you take it to its logical conclusion. But, uh, yeah. He's also a former volunteer firefighter who is extremely pro-safety regulation.

I also love how this guy decided to focus on one of the LEAST ONEROUS REGULATIONS EVER. I have worked in food service and while there may be a regulation here and there that I thought was a bit overkill, not once did I ever think that having to wash my hands after using the bathroom was burdensome.
Also, I'm going to go out in a limb and guess that the number of restaurants that have raised their prices or gone out of business because of the hand washing regulation is exactly zero.

And now we can no longer go to that BBQ joint.
EEEEEEEEEwwwwwwwww. So gross.
Seriously, though, hand-washing isn't that hard, and it makes no damn sense to say "Hey lets make that optional for the person fixing my food as long as they have a sign, I don't mind getting sick."
