My parents were told I was going to be a boy (where is my penis???), so they planned to name me Robert.
When I came out a girl, they already had a name in mind, so they went with that. Their runner-up option was Lauren. My actual name is very different from Lauren.

So nice to meet you, Roberta!
My name couldn't be farther from Roberta! Although it does have 3 syllables too lol.

Yes, I should have been Samantha. That was my name until a week before I was born. Then my mom had to choose what would become a trendy early 80's name. :sigh: Good thing I changed it.

My mom says she contemplated Jamie.
Funny story on how I got my name. My paternal grandparents kept suggesting my first name and middle name. They loved it and telling my parents it was a "beautiful Irish name" (family line on dad's side from Ireland). My parents pushed back, but kept coming to a stalemate on what to actually name me. My mom says she was in the hospital recovering and grandma/grandpa showed up with all these balloons that said "Congrats on Baby Girl Firstname Middlename." She said she was basically like "eh, ok." Haha.
They were debating between Katherine and Elizabeth, but Elizabeth was the frontrunner by a wide margin. When I was born, they thought I looked like a Katherine. (Which is a thing I don't really get, I looked like a loaf of bread)
If I had been a boy, I would have been named Theodore, but my parents changed their minds about that by the time my brother was born 7 years later.

My name was going to be Amanda after the song that was popular at the time (my dad is music obsessed). They couldn't think of a good middle name, so they made that my middle name and my sister came up with my first name (she was 8). ETA: a lot of you know my first name already.. think super popular 80s name that starts with a J!
They "knew" I was a girl, but my mom did say once that if I had been a boy, I would have been Christopher Michael. Funny story, there was a point where I knew like, a million people named Chris/Kris. I even dated a few of them (only the ones named Kris for some reason though.. 2 of them were actually Kristian though).
If I had been a boy, I would have been Ryan. My brother is 7 years younger than me and that is his name.
My mom originally wanted me to be Nicole (Nikki), but hated how it sounded with my last name. So that became my middle and they gave me my first name. As a kid I had wished they had stuck with naming me Nikki, but I've grown to like Lisa.
I was going to be Jessica if I was a girl and Dustin if I was a boy. After I was born, I apparently didn't look like a Jessica so my parents named me the most popular girl's name of the 80s. Apparently it was my grandmother's (who had just passed) favorite name. Why she didn't name either of her own two daughters that name, I'll never know.

Well, my parents didn't have a boy name picked out. But when spelling my name, they wanted a letter that went below the line when I was learning to write. So that is why it is not spelled like the bird. (So not Allie HoneySpider) My mom said she was also so hopped up on pain meds that she misspelled my middle name too.
My mom always liked the name Debbie ..her first child was a boy so she couldn't use it. She still liked it and her 2nd child was a boy, so no-go again. By the time her 3rd came , it was a girl. She didn't like the name anymore!! LOL

My parents had a deal if I was going to be a boy my father would get to name me, Brian Michael, if I was a girl my mother would name me. She first picked Shoshanna, but then she heard another name being said and liked that much better. My father swore that they spelled my name wrong on the bc and that's why my name is spelled the way it is, my mother says, no it's not. LOL
