I know they have a pretty great return policy. I bought a pretty expensive bag there about a year ago and have barely used it because it feels too heavy for me. Do you think they would take it back? It is awful if I do that? I just want to get a lighter bag and could justify it if I could return this one.
Well, yeah, but within the normal return period. 30-60 days. A year later is different; they can't just put it back on the shelf and resell it now (most likely).
They'll take it back. I'm not sure I personally would do this if I've used the bag, but I have returned shoes I'd never worn 6 months later (my feet grew with my first pregnancy and they no longer fit). Since I had the receipt they didn't even blink. Return policies like theirs are why I shop there.
I have such a hard time with their policy. I have no qualms about returning things that are within a reasonable amount of time and wouldn't question it. I did take back a white Kate Spade bag I got and carried for a season because the handles completely worn through the white leather and looked awful after ONE season and I don't carry bags daily. I just took it in to see what they would say, even willing to consider some type of repair. They immediately said that it was unacceptable and returned it on the spot. I was amazed and it was certainly not expected.
It might be worth a quick call to the store to get their opinion. There is also the online chat option on their website. I've gotten great advice from them on there as well.

Yea maybe I'll give them a call. I'm not trying to take advantage. I am just bummed that a bag I liked and spent a good deal on isn't something I use.

This is why I shop there too. I feel like if I make a mistake with my purchase or something happens to it, that they will stand behind it. I almost pulled the trigger on that Onna Ehrlich bag that mcc posted about last week but I chickened out. I was worried that it would be too large and then I would be stuck with it or have to try to sell it since they wouldn't likely take it back.
I went to Nordies and picked up a beautiful Coach bag that I LOVE and I have the warm fuzzier knowing they will take care of me if I needed something.
Their return policy is pretty liberal but I would totally expect them to side-eye this and not take the bag back. You are probably better off selling it on eBay or here, or maybe even Tradesy. Not Poshmark though, those people are lowballers.
A year is a long time. I recently bought a Kate Spade bag, was really excited about it, got it home, cut the tags right off and started using it. After a couple of days I realized to was too small, but I didn't know if I could return it without the tags. Of course they were very nice and said no problem, but I literally used it about 3-4 days and returned it within 30 days. I'd feel guilty trying to return something after a year.
I agree that if you are returning because it is too heavy, then no. I would consign it or sell on ebay. If it was defective I would say yes. I returned a MBMJ bag that was a year old because it literally looked like it was 10 years old even though I didn't use it everyday. I loved that bag but it was almost $600 and I expected it to last a bit longer. I miss that bag a lot. But they did have issues with wear on that particular bag.
So the point of this babbling is yes, they will take it back. But I wouldn't return it unless it was defective. You had to know it was too heavy within 30 days.

Yea I used it probably 4 times and its been sitting in my closet for a long time.
Like I already said above I will probably end up selling it on ebay. I looked it up and it's going for decent money for other people on ebay so I will just do that and put it towards a new bag.
I've sold on ebay a few times before so I'll just end up doing that, just a little more hassle but I get what people are saying. Even though I didn't use it much I know it's been a good amount of time.
I used to work for Nordstrom. They do not have a return policy and no one will be side eying you. People would get fired if they refused to take something back, the Nordstrom brothers stand behind their policy 100%. I spend so much money there and would have zero problems returning the bag.
I used to work there, too. One day I had a girl come in with two pairs of premium denim she had owned for about a year. She was returning them because she had just had a baby, and the jeans no longer fit. I was so super nice to her, and refunded her the $250.
She came back later, to cancel the transaction, because her mom and husband were aghast that she had returned them!

Ditto all of this, down to having worked there (in Handbags even!). They'll return it, without a single side eye. Complete customer satisfaction is a HUGE component of their business model. I actually had a similar issue with a pair of unworn cold-weather shoes I returned years later because I moved to a warm climate before I ever had a chance to use them. They processed the return without any questions.
ETA: I also returned a MbMJ handbag i had used almost daily for a few months. Some of the stitching on the handle started unraveling. It was really a cosmetic issue, but I was unhappy in light of the price point. The salesperson agreed with me.
The amount I've spent and will continue to spend at Nordstrom, due in large part to knowing about their excellent customer service, far outweighs the loss they took on the two returned items I described.
While they will take back anything at some point it is abuse of the system.
And I will say that they are not always "nice & pleasant" about returns. I had a pair of premium denim I returned after six months because there was flaws in the denim. They were skinny jeans and I didn't wear them a lot. The girl was not very nice about it at all. She said that hers didn't do that maybe they were too small and it was pulling. I just exchanged them for the same thing and she was a snot about it.
The post-partum return of denin? Yeah, no. That is an abuse of the system.

Making a habit out of everything you buy and use? Probably abuse of policy. Returning one barely used bag? Probably falls within "fair and reasonable" as it's termed within their policy. See Section "Is there a time limit? What if it's worn?"

While yes you CAN take it back, you know with in one or two uses a purse is too heavy.
We will agree to disagree on this.
I said above I used it 3-4 and then put it in my closet after realizing it was too heavy. I thought i would come back to it. I didn't. I bought the nylon version of the bag in November and use that one a lot.
