Say you could easily have picked a career for yourself and it would happen, what would you have picked for yourself?
I have always wanted to own a little coffee shop where I could get the best of both worlds basking in coffee and baking a handful of yummy things to share with people. I think I still want a similar career but now I would love to move it to a food truck type of thing so I can travel about to different events and what not.
If I won the lottery and could do whatever the hell I wanted? I'd open up a dog retirement home/care center where I'd adopt all of the senior dogs and give them the best last months/years of their lives. I suppose that I'd let people adopt them from me too, but I'd be super picky making sure that these dogs got the best care ever... and all of the treats and belly rubs they could want. Or maybe a dog boutique and bakery.
Sometimes I fantasize about being a writer and working from home and coffee shops, the beach, etc. Or for a really cool TV show like The Daily Show or Parks & Rec.
More realistically, I want to be a lawyer, but doing appeals, and part-time professor, and maybe a judge some day.
Stay at home mom. And maybe a small side business of doula.
Whoa. Twin.
I am really struggling with work right now. I dread going every day and dh asked me what I want to do if I quit this job. I said doula! Because we can't live on his non profit salary so I can't be a sahm.
Less unrealistic: Have my own French cafe specializing in galettes (proper Breton crepes) and desserts and chocolate and coffee and tea. We'd have baguette sandwiches, with the Hspecial of the day. It would also function partly as a shop so that I would go to France once or twice a year to the flea markets and buy a ton of cool stuff to decorate and be for sale at the cafe. (unrealistic because I'm not a morning person so don't want to be up at 4am to bake the bread and croissants and can't do long stints in a kitchen, most restaurants fail within the first year, its a hard business)
Realistic: happy graphics worker bee working on fun projects like for the Science Center.

Me too. I'm nearly at year 5 and keep thinking I'd love to sit a desk all day....or something low stress where I don't have to take my work home with me.

Me too! I've totally romanticized this idea as if I'd be the fun little cafe people in my neighborhood would love to patron.
I am working on going back to school to become a teacher. I think I'll be very happy with that choice. I've worked in my current job for just over 4 years and know I'm ready for the change.
I don't think this is too unrealistic but I'm not quite ready yet, but I'd like to be a literacy coach or some sort of educational consultant or trainer.
I do really enjoy teaching. I have a student teacher this tear and it's been fun to coach her along and it helps me continue to grow in my practice.
I'd like to own a specialty food shop. Would love finding the cool specialty foods to carry, offering up maybe some fresh foods on occasion. If we lived somewhere less expensive, this might be something on the radar for a career down the road, but it's so expensive here that I'm not sure I could make it work.
