As part of the firm change up, we have to get new computers. I would rather not have a new PC. I would rather get a surface pro 3 with an extra monitor, keyboard and mouse, and docking station. I want to do this so that I don't have to print as much paper. I file almost all my documents online so there is no reason to print documents. I like the tablet for showing documents to my clients and they can even sign on the tablet so no reason to print out documents since we file using their electronic signature anyway. Also, I can take the table with me to court instead of a bunch of unnecessary paper files. Our IT person told me that even the cheapest Surface Pro will be a major upgrade in terms of power and processessing than the hunk o junk I'm using now. So I was all in for the surface pro. Now I'm seeing a lot of hidden costs. The docking station is $200. The portable keyboard is expensive. I'm looking at closer to $1,200 for the surface versus a very good PC for like $500.
Has anyone has experience with using the surface pro for work? What about a different tablet? Another option would be to get the PC but then to get a less expenive tablet just for storing all my PDF files for client signings and court. It would save on SO MUCH PAPER.
J and I just got surfaces earlier this month. Sure you can get a decent PC for $500 but with the surface you are paying for convenience. It's really light and easy to take places. I love the One Note feature. I can take notes on anything, push a button and BAM it's in text. We got a package deal through the Microsoft store that had the surface, keyboard, office 365 and a case for like $1200 or a little less. I can't remember exactly.
Well, also maybe consider the cost of paper, toner, and wear & tear on a printer and how much of that you would save when factoring the price differential. Honestly, I would go with the Surface Pro.
