When they watch the Bachelor?
Seriously, when they showed how small his 'small town' really was, my first thought was of Hav, and how now I get it when she would talk about how she had an hour drive to seriously go anywhere.
When I hear small town, I usually think of a quaint little town with a main street that has locally owned/operated shops that still have everything you'd need, like in Gilmore Girls, but MAN, that town really has nothing.
I think you'd need to be a real homebody to live in a town that small. He pretty much admitted that when he said something like, "Yeah, I basically spend a lot of time just hanging out at home". It would be pretty tiring to have to drive a ways just to go shopping or whatnot, so I think realistically people probably just stay home a lot.
Dude. I know I've said this before, but I live in a tiny town. I have to check the population density again, but most of you wouldn't believe how rural we are. We drive 45+ mins to get anywhere decent (town here does have an overpriced supermarket, bank, gas, pharmacy, etc). That said, we are outside of the state capital, a big one by some standards. Not Hav. I believe there are different levels of isolation. Some rural places are not as ignorant as others. Country living is definitely not my top pick, but it could be worse!
I don't watch the bachelor but there is a poster that occasionally reminds me of her.
I think I know the one.
Share with the class. I accept PMs.
So here is a UO, strictly Bachelor related.
That place is such a god forsaken hell hole it is almost unsafe -- no doctor, no market. He's got options -- by all accounts he's not plowing the damn fields -- he is managing a very, very successful family business and is rumored to have a six figure+ net worth. It's almost irresponsible for him to chose to raise kids there. What happens if there is an emergency?
Of course, all of this hinges on him actually choosing to live there which I don't believe for even one second.

This is similar to where I live. We just plan to drive and I go to town atleast 4 days a week usually everyday. DS1's school will be a 40 minute drive. It took some adjusting since I grew up and went to college in bigger cities but DH grew up in a more rural area so he doesn't see a big deal. I love our area though.

That's what I don't get too. I mean all the women are having to grapple with the idea of moving to this ridiculous town...how come he can't move? Isn't Des Moines or somewhere like an hour away? Seems like he could manage the farm from that far. I mean, I'm no farmer, and there is no way I could ever be happy in a town like that, so maybe I'm the wrong person to give an opinion, but that just seems like such a huge issue. Especially to go from a courtship that took them from LA to Bali, and then he proposes and, ha! Welcome to your new life!

I wanted to shake Whitney when she said she would be ok with it because it would be time to start having babies. Um, you could be the only pregnant woman in town. You know not a soul. Talk about isolating.
amynumbers I don't think anyone is actually Hav. But there is a white-bread poster that I always notice judging stupid shit. (NOT Kpouch) It feels like deja vu

Yeah we have about 50 people per square mile. At least it's not the Adirondacks?

I think Des Moines was 3 hours away, so I kept wondering if there were any at least bigger towns closer that they aren't mentioning. Seriously, how long of a drive would it be for them to go to a dr./hospital?
I could easily see him having a 'town house' and then spending some time at the farm on the weekend or something? I dunno, I can't decide whether I want to be naive and think that he really is a farm boy who really does just want a quiet little life, or face the truth that anyone who goes on that show must seriously just want to be in the spotlight.
I don't watch the Batchelor, but I live in a tiny "town" well, we're only a town because we still have a post office that was opened in the early 1900s and forest ranger station. The post office probably has approx 100 box holders, but that's in a pretty wide radius consisting of ranches and other rural homes in the mountains.
The closest mini market/gas station is 10 min away. That "town" also has a post office, fire station, and a few small restaurants. But it basically is all on the main atreet, which is a 2 lane hwy that goes through. They just got a stop light. An actual city with stores, movies, the mall and the hospital is 30 min away.
The closest hospital to my house is 25-30 minutes away. I'd never go to it so our hospital is 50 minutes away. Our subdivision has a helipad for major emergencies.
We have a grocery store/gas station 4 miles from my house.

It's weird because using a lot of your definitions I live in a small town. Until recently our closest grocery store was 30 minutes away. We had a subway and locally owned pizza place. We have a post office. 40 minutes to the nearest hospital on a good day.
We have grown and the metroplex is growing toward us. In the past year we have added a Walmart, nail salon, hair cut place, two chain pizza places, and a BBQ restaurant. The nearest hospital is now 20 minutes away as is shopping.
I think it's hard to know what life is like in small towns when you're used to being near everything. my area can be very sparse in sections. miles of farm fields.
my town has an Urgent care but it's fairly new. before that the closest hospital is 25 min. But there are a lot of volunteer EMTs. Also Fire Department is all volunteer. We actually have a police station but all the towns around me only have state police/barracks etc. Places adapt.
I like where I am because I am only 5-10 min from a dollar general, gas stations, grocery stores and small family restaurants etc. abut we still have a small town feel about it. There is no 5:00 traffic. lol. and we still have county fairs and lots of family events.
My mother lives in a town with a population of like 50. They have a post office and a bar and the nearest big box store is an hour away. THAT is a small town.
I live where houses are practically stacked on top if each other and every 2 miles you'll find a shopping center. There are 3 targets in a 15 miles radius from me

Same here. There are 3 starbucks and 4 cvs drug stores within 5-10 miles. I can't imagine small town living because I have always lived in socal where it's crazy packed and busy!
