Can I join? I'm not signed up, but will be doing the WODs with my box. Probably mostly scaled. I'm actually pretty excited. There was definitely some more energy floating around today.
I wasn't super excited for 15.1 because snatches are my weakest lift. My coach was sure I could power snatch at least 55#, and he was right. I probably could have done 65#. I did 160 reps. Some TTB and mostly knees to chest. I maybe could have done it Rx and would have been lucky to get half the reps.
I opted not to do 15.1a. I feel tired this week and didn't feel a 1RM was a good idea, esp right after a WOD. My coach actually said that he's only having the people who are competing do the 1RM, unless they're really set on it. So that made me feel better about my choice.
This time last year, a good friend was competing and would always tell me all about it. It was definitely a foreign language then! Now I'm the one all excited and into it
DH got 119 reps and 225 on the CJ. 225 was already his PR, I can't believe he didn't dump a couple of small plates on to make it 226, lol! I think he was happy overall, he felt like crap.
One of our coaches/team competitors is 38w pregnant and she did it...I think she probably only got 1 TTB and then modified but there was video of her doing the snatches. Insanity. At 29w pregnant I felt like a lazy ass since I am not doing it at all.

Also how in the world do you quote on the app? carilyn- that's my favorite part of the open... The energy in the box is just different and it's awesome. I mean, it's always a fun and positive place but this time of year is awesome.

2 rounds + 3 TTB, so 63 reps, which I'm fine with. I'd hoped to keep doing my TTBs as 3s longer so that I could get a full 3 rounds, but I didn't waste time getting no repped and instead dropped them to 2s (and then 1s), and I'm happy with my ability to adapt and keep moving.
AND THEN I PRed MY CLEAN AT 49 KG!!! 2 kg PR! Plus I went for 54 (we only have 2.5 kg plates, which sucks), and although I ended up on my ass I at least got under it. Yay!

On a different note, is anyone else a judge (or have you been before)? Holy crap, it's almost more tiring than doing the workout myself! So much concentration and self-pressure to do it right and not screw up.

I love judging! But yeah, it's a lot of pressure.
Before they instated the Level 1 cert rule for regionals, my BFF judged at central east.

Done. Got a 200 lb C+J which I'm happy with. Failed 210 twice. I think I would've had it if I had another minute. Had two weird issues and lost too much time and had to rush at the end. Oh well. 3 rds on the WOd and stopped with 2 mins left on clock to rest, since I'm not registered and just wanted to work my lifting.

The first week of the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games season comes in two scored parts.
Workout 15.1 asks athletes to give their all during 9 minutes of toes-to-bars, deadlifts and snatches. Immediately after, athletes have 6 minutes to set their 1-rep-max clean and jerk in 15.1a.
While some team strategizing on 15.1 and 15.1a was anticipated, it was still expected all competitors would at least make a reasonable attempt at each part. After seeing several cases of team competitors blatantly ignoring the triplet in order to focus solely on lifting heavy, CrossFit Games organizers have decided to invalidate the efforts of more than 20 athletes whose performances clearly strayed from the intent of the two-part workout.
"Ignoring an entire scored event is counter to the intent of the competition," said CrossFit Games General Manager Justin Bergh. "The test is to see who performs well at both events done back to back, not one or the other."
The competitors with rejected scores may still redo the two-part workout and submit new scores before 5 p.m. PT, Monday, March 2.
The weekly prize of $2015 will go to the man and woman who lead the overall worldwide leaderboard after score submissions close. As of Sunday at 7:45 a.m., Jason Khalipa leads the men's worldwide leaderboard with a score of 222 reps on 15.1 and 353 lb. on 15.1a, while Amanda Goodman leads the women's worldwide leaderboard with a score of 214 reps on 15.1 and 237 lb. on 15.1a.

I like it too, and I think it'll be less exhausting after this first round. Even if I did feel a little bit mean for having to no rep someone 3 times for dropping the barbell before he had his feet back together. Sorry, buddy :-#

The second guy I judged on Friday I had to no rep about half his t2b for not actually touching the bar
I've judged at a comp. It's fun. I'm doing 15.1 tomorrow. Sounds like there were a ton of PRs at my box on Saturday when everyone did the wod. So sad I couldn't make it. I know I'd probably do better when everyone's there vs just a few.
But my C&J was NOT a PR, I only made it to 90# (I should have been able to do at least 95). It was fun, but WOOF, my hands!!
Scaled or Rx? Haha, I am confused.
I have actually been surprised by all the PRs (mine and others). Obviously adrenaline comes into play, but I thought that being tired would bring my C&J down.

I was at 90%. I absolutely could not have PR'd in that moment.

There is a scaled version of the workout that we were still able to claim RX for--KTE and 55# for the weight. So definitely scaled but still RX...does that make sense? Did only my box do that?? I know they have the scaled version on the site, but our box had it listed as two different workouts--prescribed and scaled, both with an RX option.

Rx and scaled both make sense, but they're mutually exclusive - you're either doing one or the other.
From your explanation I'd assume "scaled Rx" is a term your box used to differentiate the real scaled version from any other version that someone might make up (like if someone wanted to try it out but with 45 lb for the snatch).
Final thoughts: 1. Congrats on your 128! 2. I have now written/read the word scaled so many times that it's lost all meaning.

Oooooh, okay this makes sense now lol. You did the "official" scaled workout!

The whole controversy is hilarious to me. CF HQ is making themself look like asses, even if they are "right" in that full effort should be expected/rewarded... they had 9+ months to create this WOD and the rules and they didn't prepare for this? THey didn't address it in the first place?
I feel like this is a perfect example of strategy in competition. The only people it "helps" are team competitors-they needed to address that differently. But no individual is going to regionals by posting a score of 1 on 15.1, even with a 400lb clean and jerk.
THey needed some other scoring system if they didn't want this to happen. It should have to be a total of the two numbers, maybe. Add them together for your final score and that's what ranks you. I just can't believe they are changint the rules retroactively. Assholes.
ANd I could use myself as an example. I'm pregnant. IN a month, my belly might stick out too far to do T2B... but I might still be able to clean and jerk a decent #. So should I enter the scaled division even though my C&J is competitive RX? Just because I'd get a 0? Then they disqualify me for "throwing" event 1? That's bull, IMO.
Finally did mine. I got 184 reps and 115 on the C&J which was my max. I did scaled because I can't string together a ton of T2B. I probably could have PR'd at 120 had I started with that but after the 115 I was done. I cleaned the 120 but couldn't get the snatch.

I don't understand this. Because if you sandbag 15.1, that's going to impact your overall score.

It has to do with how team scores are submitted later I believe…top 3 scores from each workout…so I think the people who strategized this did it because they are hoping to improve their team's scores…so 3 people would go all out on 15.1 and submit those scores, 3 people would go all out on 15.A and submit those scores...

Ahhh. That makes sense. CFHQ probably should have done a better job with the two first workouts, but honestly, I am all for strategizing, but I think it's shitty if this is what your box is doing so you can make it to regionals. And it's against what CF is supposed to be about.
