I mean this is casual dinner. If it was like a dinner party, for some occasion I would get fancy. Like i would wear my nice leggings, the ones without holes
After several references to thedahliharpa hating randoms I felt compelled to see what people were talking about. I pulled up her profile and clicked "posts" and read through til I found the randoms hate. It's weird seeing ALL of someone's posts on one page. It feels like reading their email, even though the posts are public. I feel like a creeper.

Speaking of lent...I don't understand. How is giving up meat one day a week considered a hardship, and such a hardship that pregnant women should be exempt?

Because what's pizza Fridays without pepperoni pizza?!

My looking presentable to go to a normal dinner or something is jeans and a shirt.
I don't like traditional sweatpants but will wear the kind not tight at the bottom around the house. I will/do wear leggings and yoga pants to the grocery store or other errands.
Oh, speaking of meat. This totally doesn't belong in FFFC but I don't give a shit. We had our first "incident" regarding meat yesterday. We do co-op snow days with 3 other families, meaning that if daycare is closed, all the kids go to one house, one other family helps care for them, and two families get to work as usual. Well, at lunch the kids all had chicken. Kai got very upset that he couldn't have chicken. (I wasn't there but DH was). It's the first time he's really noticed or cared about the whole meat thing. So when we got home we explained that chicken is an animal, and we love animals so we don't eat them, but some people do. Then he was like, how do you eat an animal? So we said, you have to kill it first. Then he said, why do my friends eat animals? Anyway, it was I'm sure the first of many difficult conversations about it. I don't want him to judge his little friends for eating meat, but I do want him to know explicitly why we don't. I also don't want him to eat meat just to defy us, which I'm sure he will at some point, lol.
We bedshare because Joshua's crib is in our bedroom and when he wakes up, he's about a foot from DH. We live in a 565 sq foot condo. I hate it. We are meeting with a real estate agent tomorrow. But we may have to let the condo be foreclosed on if they won't agree to a short sale. I feel like a total loser (condo is only in my name).

I'm obviously not vegetarian and my dad is a butcher, so....
But I feel like explaining the food chain is important. And that humans are omnivores, but we also get to PICK if we want to eat animals or not. And that your family has picked to not eat animals. Then ask him what he thinks.
Maybe turn it into a discussion about herbivores/omnivores/carnivores and their teeth. I feel like that'd be a cool teaching moment.

This does not answer your question at all , but Henry taught Elliot a song. ( to the tune of "dreidel dreidel dreidel ") that goes "bacon, bacon, bacon, I had to kill a pig !" And I can't get Elliot to stop singing it loudly wherever we go.
But to answer your question, I would just say something like "different families have different rules and different beliefs. It doesn't mean others are wrong, but in our family we believe it's not ok to eat animals". That's basically the line we use for everything.
I've just never felt like " myself" in sweat pants or yoga pants, so I don't wear them. If I am not pregnant, I generally don't wear leggings except for two pairs that are a very thick rib scuba type material from BCBG that I have had for years. When I am out I don't even notice people in them. Before or after a run I will go to the grocery sometimes in running tights. If I showed up to a dinner at a friend's house in sweatpants my friends would be seriously concerned something was wrong with me!
