The only advice I have is to not be left handed and try to teach your right handed kids to tie their shoes. Poor things will be wearing velcro shoes for the rest of their lives.

We have the opposite problem. H and I are both right-handed but DS is left-handed. He is almost 8 and just started tying his own shoes. But DD is right-handed and has been tying them since pre-k. I don't have any tips. I hope the trick you found works CJ.
Is this where I admit that my 7-year-old can't tie her shoes? The only shoes she has that tie are her soccer cleats, but I know she can't wear Velcro forever. Every time we try to teach her she ends up mad and frustrated.
