I'm going to a fundraiser semi-formal party. From previous years' pictures I can see that people wear cocktail dresses.
My original plan was to wear this dress:
Poof!
But I haven't worn it in years, and now that I put it on, that flounce at the bottom makes it look kind of dated. Maybe I'm standing funny, too. But I love the color, and it really does look good on me; I wear it with a gold shawl that I have. Here's a picture from the wedding I wore it to years ago:
Poof!
My other option is this dress:
Poof!
I got it a long time ago, but I don't think I've worn it to anything. I like the color and it looks nice. It just seems kind of boring for a semi-formal event. Seems more like something I'd wear to a nice dinner rather than an event.

What's the weather? I think I like the first one better, but I'm personally not a fan of the shawl. Not that it looks bad on you, I just think the dress is lovely without it.
You look great in both dresses, so whatever you feel best in is what I'd go with.

It's frickin' cold and snowy. But I think I just have to ignore that and wear what I want. Unless I want to go to the party in a parka.

I'm around Boston, I totally get it. We can't keep wearing LL Bean stuff, something's gotta give! You do look great in both, but I prefer the first it's more dressy or interesting or something. Idk.
Eh, I'd prefer not to. I just moved to a new apartment, so until I get my security deposit back on the previous one I'm feeling poor. I'm not really poor, but when I actually feel like saving money for once, I should go with it.
I love this first one. Hair up. no shawl. It is beautiful.
If you wear the second one you need to spruce it up with some jewels, hair and shoes.
Both are great, but #1 is very unique and def dressy, the second one I could wear to work with a blazer.
I'm thinking about doing something interesting with my hair. There is a theme to the party - Clue! Murder Mystery. That tends to be kind of 1920s flapper style. So I was thinking about trying to do pin curls with my hair like this:
Just for fun, to see if I can do it. It will probably work out horribly, and I'll just wash it out.
OMG, definitely the first one with the pin curls. Get some loooooooong costume "pearls" in gold or a lighter or darker shade than that dress. Maybe a feather fascinator?

Hah! I was going to do the pincurls as a nod to the theme; I wasn't planning to go full costume. But maaaaybe a thin gold band along my hairline like this
