Get a purse, a nice one. The bigger ones have pockets, hold everything you need. I have a juju be pouch that goes in mine. I'm three kids deep and haven't carried a diaper bag since LO1 about five years ago. It's just a small way that makes me feel put together and stylish, not a frumpy mom.
Get a nice regular handbag, like a large tote bag. I stopped carrying a diaper bag after #1. Currently I am using a Longchamp Le Pliage large tote and love it
Another vote for giant nice purses. I have a few coach bags in patent leather and pvc and they wipe clean. I also have a big dooney and Burke and those work fine. Just make sure they have different pockets and compartments.
Mine was Vera Bradley. It wasn't exactly my style, but it was a gift from MIL so not worth hurting feelings over. It was light-weight, machine washable, and definitely grew on me. I had the matching wristlet, too, which was cute.
I just throw a diaper or two in my purse along with a couple snacks.
You win the breezy-off
I used to do this for a quick trip somewhere, but now that I have a newborn again I need diapers for 2, wipes, extra baby outfit, pants for N, burp cloth, a bottle
Eta: snacks and waters too
My friend has a petunia pickle bottom boxy backpack that's pretty cool

I've never packed an extra outfit for an outing. Or bottles. My kid never/hasn't needed a clothing change *knock on wood*, so I'm sure my tune would change if/when that happens.
You've never had a public poosplosion or barfsperience?? Lucky girl. And yea, you probably jinxed yourself
I have a Vera Bradley tote I keep packed but usually throw the essentials into my big purse to go in. I had a JJ cole with DS1 that I liked but needed something bigger to carry DS2's equipment.

LOL
My kid is 3 1/2 and he was mad at me today because I didn't bring him extra clothes when we went shopping and then at the store he puked all over the floor and his pants.
I want a magical child that never needs new clothes when we leave the house...I pack like a suitcase when I take them both out.
One day last year DS1 got Soaked in the rain and threw such a fit I bought him an entire new outfit including socks and shoes. I learned my lesson. Now DS2 has such bad reflux and sensory issues I pack him 3 outfits for a 5 hr day. And I have run out.
I don't put much in my purse to carry around especially since we are done with diapers. Even then I didn't carry much but my trunk is full of supplies - extra shoes, outfits, wipes, granola bars, water, first aid kit etc,
I also use a backpack style leather purse. So much easier to have a backpack when at the museum or park over a diaper bag on the shoulder.
