I know we've talked about this at various points here, but I'm going to ask again.
We're on the final day of our interior paint job, and we've been really happy with the work they've done. If I give the two guys that have been doing the work (not the owner) $40 each for a week worth on a ~#2k job, is it insultingly low? 10% to each would be more than I would want to pay, but DH thought $40 would be appreciated.
I may be hesitating too, because I'm going to be the one handing out the money instead of DH, and it always feels awkward face-to-face.

LOL, I tip just about everyone, mostly because I'm a pushover.
However, I don't think I'd tip house painters. It seems like tipping the furnace repair guy. If you've noticed they've done nice work, you might call or write the owner, though, and say so. Or you could offer to buy them a nice lunch on their last day.
I'd buy them some lunch, maybe a gift card to dunkin donuts or something. Not cash. I think in this case, spending that money on something else actually looks more heartfelt than a low-ish cash tip. Make sure to review them on AngiesList and Yelp if you can.

They are so neat ...you would never know they were there... I can trust them and leave the house. They put my dog out. They are perfectionists. I could go on and on they took my dark stained woodwork and moldings and staircase to white for a great price.

They are SUPPOSED to be neat, trustworthy, and do a good job for a reasonable price. The only thing here that isn't their job to do is letting your dog out.
