I think pumps are different because they're hella expensive and a lot of moms cannot afford them and don't have access to them.
Honestly I side eye most people who sell their pumps on my mom swap group. It just seems off to me.
Pumps are in that category of things you're not supposed to sell or share, mostly for hygenic/safety purposes. Same line of thinking as re-selling car seats, I believe.
This. I mean I would never ever buy a used or never-been used-but-previously-bought car seat or pump to use for myself. So if a family is in a position that it's their best option I can't imagine trying to make a dime off them.
And as for $40 - people are funny about money. Sometimes the wealthiest guy in the room has the hardest time parting with $40 or would do the shadiest thing to get it.
Okay, I must be a bit dense today. I can see why selling the pump over donating it would be shady/crappy/whatever.
But is the general consensus that having yard sales or selling stuff on craigslist, like old clothes, baby gear, tools, whatever, as opposed to donating said stuff, considered shitty?
Well that better not be the general consensus. Based on that logic by some people if you can't afford to donate to charity then you better get out there and get a job! I sell, consign, Craigslist, ebay whatever. I make decent money sometimes too. But I also donate to shelters, pass loads of baby stuff on to friends, and give fiancially. The two practices are not mutually exclusive.
No no one is saying you can't sell and have to donate. It was RF bullshit about "why would I give shoes to people who need them when I could sell them?" And NO RF I am not putting words in your mouth you said it I have it quoted. RF decided to backtrack when she realized how big an asshole she made herself sound like. I have no doubt you do donate and sell stuff I have no doubt RF is the type of person who sells all the good stuff and donates the shit that doesn't sell. Because why should you donate nice shoes when you could sell them?

It's also the bullshit of I had no idea my insurance paid for it. Bullshit you are a grown adult you know damn well hospitals aren't giving shit away for free.
Eh. $40 may not be much to you, but it may be a lot to another family. If someone wants to sell their own belongings on craigslist or a yard sale, fine, go ahead.
But deliberately getting something free (through insurance or messing with Amazon's return policy or whatever) is shady in the very least.
$40 isn't a lot FOR A PUMP. If someone here is hard up for a nominal amount of cash, it wouldn't be $40 for a pump.

If someone bought your double electric pump you didn't pay for for $40, they likely couldn't get one for free. Therefore, you are a dick for changing them.
Also, it was $40! It's like a drug addict selling grandma's jewels for $50 to get her next high. It just seems weirdly desperate for cash -- or dumb. If you are going to sell it -- sell it. It's like it was desperately flipped for some cash when you charge $40.

Well isn't the point of yard sales to sell shit you don't want for cheap? How is holding a yard sale weirdly desperate for cash.
And aren't you the one that pointed out hospitals don't give things away for free? But now all of a sudden this is some magical free pump I didn't pay for?
You keep saying it was free.
And besides the fact I don't do yard sales, some things are just stuff you give away. Stuff to help moms breastfeed when they otherwise can't falls into that category.

Seriously? There is no way you are this dumb. As I like to say drown in the rain dumb.
I gave away my pump. I had bought a manual pump for some odd reason....
I've always heard after delivery people take the diapers and other supplies (not all are open items) because it's theres (as in they are being billed). So I understand why someone would take a pump if the doctor told them they had paid for it. I don't see the issue in it being resold if it was hers.

Is this the time to admit Reese has her own medical stethoscope? When we were first diagnosed, on the oncology floor (and were on the transplant side) due to germs, each patient has their own stethoscope in their room that the nurses used. That way it wasn't going from room to room and kid to kid. When we were discharged they told us to take it for Reese. They wouldn't reuse it.
Um, if insurance "gave" her a pump she is obviously paying insurance premiums, which we all know is $$$. She didn't get it for "free". This thread is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah, obviously. Except she claimed that wasn't the case. We had to enlighten her it was actually insurance and not the fucking medela fairy.
Whatever, if the $40 of all things feels that good for someone, I guess good for them. I still think it's dickish but I doubt she gives a fuck.

Okay but where do you land on the actual point of this post?
IWhen my doctor went to discharge me she asked me if I wanted the double and when I said no she said to take it because I was basically paying for it in my hospital stay.
I'm talking about this particular statement by RF. I see why she took it and was commenting directly in relation to that.
So not the original post? The one about amazon diapers.
It was another poster who said her hospital gave out free pumps. I said I was told it was included in my hospital stay, so I assumed it was part of the bill whether I took it or not. Obviously, that wasn't the case, but I was never unaware that my insurance was paying for the hospital stay.
Where is this even coming from??
So you did know insurance paid for it along but just played dumb?

Whoops, tapatalk does a horrible job with notifications.
Now, what is your question here exactly? Where do I land on the point of this post? LOL it sounds like impalement. Not sure how else to answer this.
