Mel hasn't napped since I think September except for when she has been sick. She is exhausted by the end of the day and whiney, crying at everything and says to me "mommy, I just so tired."
She will not nap. Refuses. At home I can hardly get her to even have relaxing time. She isn't crazy running around, but sitting or laying in a dark room just won't happen. At preschool they do have quiet time (she is in the room with the kids who don't nap, so I think they usually have an audio play or story thing going, I was only there once for it when I picked her up when she was sick) but they say she doesn't nap. She says she does.
I don't think we can make bed time any earlier. We start bath at 7 and they are in bed/going to sleep by 7:30.
I obviously can't force her to sleep, but her body apparently needs the rest.
What does she do if you put her in her room with the lights off and maybe a sound machine on? I've found that if d plays in her bed for 2 hours it still helps reset her day a little bit. We skipped nap/quiet time completely yesterday and she had a hard time so I know even quiet time is good for her
On the days that V doesn't nap, I try to get her down around 7. Would an earlier bedtime be an option for you guys? V will wake up at the same time regardless, so it equates to more sleep overall when bedtime is earlier.
When he dropped his nap, we also had to move his bedtime up. I'm sorry. . These transitions in schedules are so tough for everyone. I really enjoy his earlier bedtime and no nap now, though. It kind of makes life a bit easier.

She screams and cries or tries to escape. She gets herself really worked up. If I stay with her, she plays and wants to talk.

I'm not sure dh will go for it. He gets off of work at 5, I scramble to make dinner and it's ready by 6/6:30 and then right in to bath. I feel so frazzled as it is

I completely get it... as I just got my no-nap today child down for the night and it's 8 p.m. here. Wish there was an easy answer!
A goes to bed about 7:15 and doesn't nap. In the week, he is calms down for a while in the afternoon but in the weekend with DH and I around, he wants to go, go, go. If he is obviously getting too tired, then we give him an hour tv in the afternoon as he zones out to tv and that is his downtime.
This is how Claire is too. She hasn't napped in months. Quiet time in her room does not work she just fights and cries and comes out of her room. She zones out for an hour watching tv in the afternoon then is good to go the rest of the day with bedtime 7:45-8.
