Waaaah - I have to do the three-hour glucose screen before my next appointment (in a month). I scored a 145 and my OB's cut-off is 139. I passed with DD so this is my first time going through this and I'll admit to having never paid attention to other people's posts on the subject.
Can anyone tell me they scored similarly on the 1 hour test and how they fared in the 3 hour? I'll do it in about two weeks. Is the drink for the second test a lot worse? I actually didn't think it was so bad for the first test, I had a harder time choking down breakfast extra-early in the morning than drinking the juice. I want to read-up on the diet so that I'm not totally blind on it if I fail the 3 hour test - any good resources to recommend?
It's the same drink. They will take your blood before you drink then one hour, two hour and three hours. No food or drink in between. I failed the 1hr both pregnancies but passed the 3hr fine- however I don't remember my numbers.
With my first I was fine during the 3 hours but with my second I came very very close to passing out at the two hour draw. They let me lay down and sleep between the 2-3 hour and it helped. I also found out I was anemic my second pregnancy so that's probably why.
I don't remember my numbers, but I know I had a similar situation with Blake. I was just over the cutoff at my 1 hour, and passed the 3 hour with flying colors.
I scored 149 and passed the 3 hour. My sugar bottomed out during the third hour (59) and I needed S to drive me home.
I took a diabetic finger prick reader with me (my dad is diabetic) and tested my blood immediately after they drew it, so I knew I passed right away.
I found the drink to be mich sweeter. I thought it was different than the first one but i could be completely wrong. I didn't mind the first drink. The 3 hour drink made me sick. I was in the bathroom actively trying not to vomit (I didn't).
Whoa - I didn't know it was common to feel so sick! I scheduled the test about 8 blocks from work and had planned to go in afterwards. I guess I will bring money for a taxi, just in case I don't feel like walking?
Thanks for the good news stories, I wish I didn't need to do this darn thing in a lab downtown. I'll have to make sure to have a good book on hand!
I failed my 1 hour because they told me to eat breakfast and lunch and scheduled the test at 3pm. I failed miserably.
The 3 hour was not fun. At all. The first hour I was convincing myself not to puke and had to stay calm and breathe. The second wasn't so bad but the baby kept moving all over and that made me feel ill. By the third hour I was just really tired. I should not have gone to work after it but I was trying to save my time. I felt so tired and dragged the rest of the day.
The one plus, the drink tasted like flat Fanta soda and it was ice cold. I can drink anything if it's super cold.

I failed the 1-hr last time by 1 point. I kid you not. So I had to take the 3-hr. Although I did pass with flying colors, I was absolutely miserable.
I came in, they took a draw, I drank the drink, they took a draw an hour later, and then somewhere between the 1hr draw and 2hr draw I apparently passed out. I remember waking up in a room on a bed and asking what happened. They said I just passed out sitting in the waiting area. So they took my 2hr and 3hr draws with me laying in that room. The day is really fuzzy to me.
I told my new doctor what happened last time and asked if I could just do a 2-hr test off the bat and he said no. My 1hr test is next Thursday and I'm dreading it. I better pass because I do not what to do that damn 3hr test again!
I failed both miserably. I felt awful after the 3 hr probably bc my bg had been high for so long. I had to go home and sleep it off.
My doctor gave me a really informative brochure on the diet that was a good start. I also met with a nutritional advisor that helped a lot. High protein, low carb - myfitnesspal helped me figure things out too.
I failed the 1 hour with a 143. My 3 hour was a brutal disaster and now I'm on insulin The drink tasted the same but mine had more gluclose than the first
sorry I was at an appt and just pressed reply I think the 1 hour test mine was 50 somethings of gluclose and this one was 75. It was a little bigger but same taste For mine, I had to fast 12 hours (only water). Then I went in, they took a fasting blood draw, made me drink the drink in 5 minutes (said if you throw it up then you have to come back another day and start over- that was enough for me) then I sat in the waiting room for an hour. They did a 1 hour, 2 hour and 3 hour draw. Then I left and ate. If you are walking to work make sure you bring some substantial food to eat before you leave the lab. Mine turned out to be fasting from around 7pm-1030am I was hungry!
They should have the drinks chilled which makes it a little better. If you remember to bring a straw I think it goes down easier with a straw. My lab didn't have one but they found me one in a drawer (wrapped). I think it helped!
