Formal dining room. Ceilings are 9'. I won't put a rod across the window because I don't want to cut it. Instead I will use the small rods that just go one the sides. It's hard to tell in the pics but the walls are gray green and the rug is gray. The table between the windows is from the foyer - I moved it when our painter was here this week but I may keep it there with a different lamp. If it matters, the foyer is a creamy yellow beige and then the living room on the other side of the foyer is a darker creamy yellow beige
We have arched windows in our dining room. I'm going to hand the rods above the entire window, including the arch, just below the crown molding. I'll keep them open and the arch will still be visible.
The traditional formality of the room (moldings, circle top windows) contrasted with the more contemporary furnishings you chose (lamp, dining table chairs) suggests a transitional approach would probably look best.
A couple of my friend who built new win the 1990s have those windows in their front facade or a single room in the back next to a fireplace. Although only one has a cottage style window topped by a half circle. A few have swags and jabots which were authentic to that style but no longer a trend. Others hung panels on a rod where the two windows are joined. A few have plantation blinds on the lower portion of the window. You could even do a Roman shade.
If it were my room, I'd do simple panels on substantial rods hung above the half circles. I think the room needs fabric to balance the stark lines of the furniture as in the picture someone else posted. If you decide to do a tension rod, you could do a sheer cafe style hung at the level of the bottom frame for privacy. You could do this alone or with panels. I think they could also be left undressed if you prefer a simpler look.
No, not a tension rod. Just a short rod on the wall on he side of the window. It is what the interior designer who helped me with the wallpaper and rug suggested. I'm not a fan of the look of the rod all the way up above the windows. Also, we have cellular blinds on the windows - they are all the way up in this picture. We only close them when it's cold at night since the windows in his house aren't all that great. I agree this room needs fabric.
Anyway, I need color/pattern/material suggestions. Any ideas?
