devotchka - I also feel like meal planning would help us quite a bit, but already feel so stretched for time. I wonder how difficult it would be to meal plan and walk on my treadmill at the same time. Kill two birds with one stone. Lol.
G is extremely picky which complicates things, but I think we could eliminate at least 20% of the snack type items that MH buys for him.
Time is tough! I just got some salmon and chicken at TJ today, marinated the chicken in 2 different sauces (bbq and teriyaki), bagged them in freezer bags and put them in the fridge next to some sort of chopped veggies, also in a bag or tupperware. So I have meals for 3 days now, plus frozen pizza dough in the fridge. Not the fanciest meal planning but hopefully it will work. I also designated one shelf for breakfast stuff and one for lunches. Hope H doesnt go crazy finding stuff :/ I seem to be able to only do this stuff in the evenings when I'm not exhausted which is rare. Can you do it all on Sunday? Or some other day when you can buy and prep everything for the week? You can also do one or more crockpot meals and just stick those in the freezer...

DH is the cook here since he stays home with G and he enjoys it. We just got home from Costco and stocked up on meat, chicken, fruit, and peanut butter. I'm going to meal plan during nap time today and maybe this time DH will stick to the plan. I'm going to try and keep track of our spending in real time and maybe keep a better handle on it this month.

We should do a check in! Let me know how it goes! I always just freeze chicken when we get it from Costco, then I forget it's in there. I think I am going to prep stuff and then freeze or refrigerate and label things better.

Oh man, I wish my H was the cook!
I know there is a weekly meal planning thread, on Mondays maybe? I need to take notes and steal ideas from the thread. I especially need healthy breakfast and light snack ideas for Mr. Picky.
I've started grocery shopping at Walmart because they have the savings catcher app. If you scan your receipt, it will check the prices at all stores in the area and refund the difference in a Walmart gift card. My insurance (Humana) also has a vitality program and they sent me a vitality healthy foods card. Basically anything remotely healthy that is fresh produce, meat, or Walmart brand is 10% off with the card.
