I'm so excited! We have a very strange dining room. It has an odd cutout and it makes it non-functional as a dining room if you are trying to seat any more than 6 at the table (we have a large extended family and this is an issue for us). We actually turned the dining room into the kids' playroom 2 years ago and we are using my very long kitchen as informal dining. I decided to turn the unused space in the old dining room into a WALK-IN pantry. The contractor gave us an estimate and we are doing it! Wheeeee! Storage! Yes! Here are some pics to show you what I'm talking about.
There is nothing in the wall. It cuts in outdoors as well. They were trying for contemporary instead of boxy, but it's such a non-functional space. This will be so much better. We will put rolling shelves instead of built ins, so if and when we ever sell, if the resale would be better without the pantry, we will just rip the wall out.
Ooh, that is exciting! My FIL is getting ready to help us redo our kitchen and attached bathroom. I am super excited for that. I was hoping he could turn the enclosed porch that leads to the basement into a pantry, but alas he said it wasn't really doable without shelling out major cash. I will live vicariously through your photos.
The playroom will have no access from the kitchen, but we currently have two other doors going into the kitchen. One is a large doorway from the living room, the other is a normal sized doorway from the entry hall, which is right next to the playroom.
