If there was needling it was both ways. It was a discussion that she and others were firmly set in the way they interpreted Rancic's comment, and neither side was budging, regardless of what was said. I'm not surprised; the whole time I was reading it I was waiting for it to be the last straw for her. She chose to dig in, not that people aren't entitled to their opinions, and caught a lot of opinions coming back her way.
People weren't needling her. We were having a discussion in which she led the minority opinion.
Well ok. But I read some needling and mockery in some of the responses and maybe she did too. It would appear so given that she's gone.
ETA: unless there is another reason you know of that she deactivated again?
I didn't see anyone insulting scotty. I think most of us were offering well-reasoned arguments for why we felt the way we did.
I'm sorry she deactivated. But she's left many times before and has always come back after a break. I hope that's the case this time, too.
If her feelings were hurt (which I hope is not the case) that's a shame. But I've seen far worse flamings / disagreements here towards people who get far less support than she does. Most of us love scotty and it's okay to not always see eye-to-eye on stuff.

You may be right. I was waiting for the last straw too.
It may just be that I really like Scotty that I was really noticing some of the barbed comments coming her way. You may be right that there was more of a back and forth than I noticed.

I agree I've seen FAR worse flamings. But whenever there is a group against a dissenting opinion and it moves from discussion of the actual argument to more personal comments it can feel like a pile on. And I think she was already feeling sensitive given her recent break. Maybe it was just a tipping point

Scotty was/is loved here hardcore and gets lots of support (even when she holds a minority opinion or acts like a fool). I say she can blow a motherboard for deactivating. Then she will come back in a while and then deactivate again. Lame.
YOU HEAR THAT SCOTTY- I'M CALLING YOU LAME. LOOK IN YOUR TRUTH MIRROR!
@themoneytree - what personal comments are you talking about? I didn't see anyone say anything negative to or about scotty.
Nothing really bad that I recall. Just some joshing about making sure people said things in a respectful way and someone said they'd been 'scotty'ed'. I forget exactly. But some of it was said several times by more than one person which was what I read as mockery. Mild mockery, but still she was obviously still feeling sensitive and maybe it was just too much.
She must have said something to inspire the 'respectful' remarks, but no idea what.
Why do you think she left then? Just because people respectfully disagreed with her?
Maybe? I mean, she was asked to reconsider her perspective and her answer to that was to just leave completely?
I really don't think so. But what do I know? You might be right. I don't think anyone said anything awful, but I was definitely thinking 'ouch' at some of the comments and maybe she was too.

scotty has admitted she periodically needs breaks from here. And she takes them. Anyone who has been around for awhile knows this about her. People are sad when she leaves and happy when she comes back. It's how it is.

Ok. I will be happy if she comes back. I enjoy her posts and think she seems like a really good person.

Here is the thing, though. You can be a really awesome person (which she is) and still be wrong (which she was).
I'm really super cool and I've also been wrong and people have called me on it when I was.

Well, it's also possible she enjoys the OMG NOOOOOOO DON'T LEAVE!!!! and YAY SCOTTY IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!! stuff too.
Exhausting.
Yes. Leave or stay, whatever. But if you're going to continue this cycle of deactivating and reactivating, it gets old and kind of transparent.
It's possible to take a break without the theatrics of deactivating your account every time.

I think that discussion was as tame as it could be, given the subject matter and the stubborn inability to consider the comments as even unintentionally racist.
I'm just waiting for MoneyTree to pull out her standby "adult women being bullies" callout LOL
Nobody personally attacked Scotty and she was throwing out her own barbs too....she has "left" a bunch of times for random reasons, same shit different day.
I sometimes think adult women sound like bullies. Shrug. I'm interested that you are saying it's my standby. I've said it what, once? Twice?

Yeah I thought it was a reasonable discussion for ML lol. I don't remember any direct insults. It definitely did get a little heated in that both sides were passionate about their views but it didn't seem like any personal attacks.
But I completely understand her wanting to take a break. Even though many of us are strangers it's easy to get invested in things and take things personally and it's nice to take a break from time to time.
