Reading the home security thread had me thinking about a home safe. We have rented the last few homes and always had a bank box where we would keep our valuables etc. Now that we will own a home soon I am curious if anyone has a safe that they had installed in their home --- like one bolted to the ground?
We have one. It's not bolted to the ground but we don't have anything valuable in it either. It is pretty buried in a closet under luggage and stuff though. It was less than $200 at BJs.
We have one that isn't bolted. It's not for a break in so much as it is to deter contractors or cleaning people from finding valuables or legal docs in our drawers. But in case of fire we want to be able to throw it out the window (not that we would necessarily remember to if there were to be a fire!).
We have a small fireproof one that isn't bolted. I just try to keep a lot of important paperwork in there so it is one easy thing to grab in an emergency and would (hopefully) withstand a house fire.
We have a small fireproof safe. It isn't bolted to the floor but it is in a location where something was built around it. We are still able to access it very easily.
We have a smallerish fireproof one bolted into the floor of our basement. Grandma's jewelry and important papers mostly. It brings me a lot of peace of mind.

Yes. It's not bolted to the ground, but it's not visible either, so you'd have to know where to look. It mostly just has our important documents- birth certs, passports, etc, with a few pieces of jewelry.
We have a large safe on the floor in a closet upstairs. It's not bolted, but good luck to the person trying to carry it out. DH and I had a fun time getting it up the stairs.

We have a lock box. Nothing valuable, just legal documents. It's really in case of a fire. In the event of a break in, someone would probably take it to jimmy it open and be highly disappointed by our birth certificates.
We have a small portable lockbox that's supposed to be fireproof and all that jazz. We could grab it and run in an emergency.
I actually don't find it all that useful since we have a safety deposit box at our bank and that's where we keep valuables and documents. But I was gifted a hand gun and I like having it locked in something. We don't keep much else in there.
