My BF and I are looking into going to Jamaica. Ideally looking for a place with a good nightlife. We would prefer more couples than families with drinks and dancing, but not a raging party all the time. We only want a beach. Can anyone recommend something?
jamaicam sorry it wasn't clear. I was thinking of a resort where there will be dancing at the bars/restaurants. Ideally something that has couples but not Hedonism style crazy. We will be going the first week of June.
I've been through the old threads so we're thinking Sandals Negril or Iberostar Rose Hall but wasn't sure about the nightlife in those resorts. BF loves to dance (like a cheesy fool) so it would be awesome if we could find a resort with at least one bar to play music. I stayed at Beaches in Turks and Caicos years ago and remember how much fun it was at night to dance in one of the restaurants with my family so something like that would be fun.
We went to Sandal's Negril for our honeymoon in 2005. There was no nightlife on the resort. After all the wedding planning, we didn't mind. We went to Couple's Swept Away in 2013. Like pp said, the nightlife is what you make of it. We met two couples there that we hung out with and had a great time. If I remember correctly, they had a piano bar and also different themes at the disco each night. Some nights were lame, some we weren't still awake to go. We organized a Harlem Shake which was hilarious. The lighting was horrible and we never edited it to be official looking, but it was still fun.
We liked Iberostar Grand Rose Hall but not a ton of night life, so I'd pass on that place based on what you're looking for. We also have been to Riu Ocho Rios and it was dead at night.
We did couples negril a few years ago. There is a piano bar there and they turn it into a dance club on some nights. The staff there is really great and we had a good time.
We booked our trip to Couples Negril in June - this is our first vacation together and we're so excited! Have any of you used the nude beach at that location? Neither of us has been to one and we want to try it.

Great choice you will love it. Did not do nude just topless. (back in my younger thinner days) It is just a section at the end of the "regular beach" No one really pays any attention.
Also if you want to leave the resort we went to YS falls and loved it. We did a package that included a river tour and a rum factory tour (bc yum rum). While fun, i would skip those and go to the falls. Very fun.
At Negril we liked the Asian restaurant the best (we went a few years ago so it might be different). Get a fresh coconut at breakfast every morning. It is the best thing ever.
The fine dining place is nice but nothing over the top. It is nice to do one night but honestly a beach grilled cheese is all you really need.
Some AI people freak out over bringing your own mugs. We did not and had zero. ZERO issues with this. We had a very basic room and it was fine. We were on the beach 99% of the time anyway.
If you are interested in SCUBA a basic beginner course is included in your price. You practice in the pool a bit and then go on a very basic dive. We never did that before and haven't since so it was a really cool experience.
There is a bus too that will take you to Rick's Cafe. Very touristy but the sunset is just gorgeous there and watching people jump off the cliffs was crazy.
mcc - we just went to Couples Swept Away in December and loved it. It was low-key, great beach & food, and nightlife if you wanted it We also water-skiied in the Caribbean which was awesome!
We wanted a time to get away, relax and read/eat/drink great cocktails. Have fun!!!

Can't recomend as it doesn't fit the bill for you but we just got back from our second stay at Sandals Whitehouse (amazing btw). We've also been to Sandals negril but that was back in '09.
However, I wanted to let you know about Club Mobay service. Well worth the price. This is the second year we have done the arrival and departure service. Last year arrival service saved us maybe 10 min. This year however, it saved us give or take, 2hrs. Departure last year was great due to a delay with our flight( we were in the loung for about 3 hrs). This year we were only there for about 1 1/2 hrs (still worth it though).
You'll have a great time! I also can't advise on the nude beach, but it's on the end of the regular beach separated by a fence. There's also a REALLY large hot tub in the nude area. Things I love at Couples Negril though: Beef Jerk Patties at the beach grill (yum) The sunset Catamaran cruise (you might want to bring a few dollars for this, as the boat bartenders aren't employed by the resort) The Asian restaurant Taking a float out into the bay and relaxing with a Miami Vice in hand The pool bar!!
My husband also loves playing pool volleyball, then going with the group to the pool bar. Make friends with the entertainment coordinators, they let you know about all the good stuff going on!

Also IMO don't be tempted by the on the beach dinner. It is pricey and basically the same food in the dining rooms. We saw a few people do it during our trip and it looked like a good idea on paper but sorta meh in execution.
Thanks everyone! I checked out the forums and there was a lot of good info there as well. Did anyone go off resort into Negril for the day or to walk around? We're only going for 4 nights so I was thinking we might go for a couple of hours but probably just chill out on the beach most of the time.

We did. We went to Times Square for some shopping and walked around the street (we are familiar with the area because we stayed in the area for college spring break. We also walked to Ossie's jerk stand from CSA and that was some delicious jerk chicken. We went to Push Cart at the Rockhouse for drinks and a snack. There's free taxis to both Times Square and Push Cart
We skipped shopping and felt fine doing it. If you really need something there are a handful of vendors on the beach and a small store on property. We didn't really leave the resort for no other reason other than i kept falling asleep on the beach. We did the falls execursion one day and we also took the shuttle to check out Couples Swept Away for lunch and used the beach there.
