Thinking about the crib etiquette post, how do you feel about toys in the crib? My kid is about 9 months old and he is one of those kids who will be awake but happy in his crib most days for sometimes up to an hour. There's no toys in there now, but I've been thinking about putting some of his links and a couple other things in there, mostly because he likes to chew on them. Would this be dangerous? He can crawl and pulls up to standing in the crib but isn't walking yet. There are no blankets or anything else in the crib.
I think officially people say not to put anything in the crib.
But I definitely did when they got to around that age (like a couple links, a lovey, maybe a little velcro crib activity thing w/ a mirror) because it bought me more quiet time when they woke up, and could play happily for 20 minutes or so.
I would have been comfortable with a couple of small harder toys at that age. Once they can roll over, sit, and pull to standing the risk of SIDS drops off quite a bit, but I know it's hard to let go of the clean crib mentality.
DD is 8 months old and she has a giant jellycat, a stuffed elephant and a small lovey in her crib. She also rolls onto her stomach and sleeps face-down. Creeps me out but she prefers to sleep on her tummy. The stuffies allow her to self-soothe, so I do it.
With DS I had nothing at all in the crib jntil he was like....1.5
We put toys in the crib fairly early - like earlier than most people are admitting to in this post, but we started with naps where I could watch both my kids physically move things or themselves when the toys were in the way.
ETA: oh and DS is a tummy sleeper too, has been since we moved him into the crib at 5 months.

Around age 10 -12 months dd really started loving stuffed animals, she slept with 2-3 in her crib every night and a Taggie lovey blanket. Now at age 2 her crib is full. She loves her "friends" in bed and plays with them when she wakes up
DD has never cared much for stuffed animals but has slept with a crotcheted blanked since 6 months because she wouldn't sleep without it. At first I used to sneak in and take it out but then she would wake up crying for it later so I just let it go.
