Okay, so I think that ASZ is mostly on the up and up but I think they recruited Rick's group because the exiled people are a threat. Or there is some threat and they know they are weak. Deanna seems smart. They definitely have a use for Rick's crowd though.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode. I kind of wish I could turn back time and just enjoy this show again because there were some really great Rick mkments that I think I would have found powerful a year ago, but I feel so negative about some of the choices leading up to now that it's hard. But I thought his beard shaving scene was cool and enjoyed the part where he decided to wind his watch.
My main complaint: why the fuck is Noah - with his bum leg - on the supply run team???
My secondary complaint is Carol's act and how crazy she looked with that stupid smile on her face. I didn't find her fooling Deanna very plausible. It seemed so put on. Plus if Aaron had been following them and knew their names, he knew Carol isn't some soft den mother type? None of them are. So stupid.
Daryl was kind of hilarious last night. It will be interesting to see if he can fit in I guess. Seems like a rehash though in a way. Him carrying around that possum was funny though.
I like that they gender swapped the ASZ leader from the comics. Nice to have another strong female character, especially one in a position of power.
My thinking is that Deanna didn't fall for Carol's act but put her in a position to work with the more vulnerable members of the community to make her feel connected & keep them safe. Might be reading too much into it.
Daryl seemed like a caged wild animal the whole episode. It'll be interesting to see what they do with him since he's an original character. He was funny though, especially when Carol was leaving for her job in her mom clothes.

Re: Noah. Total wtf.
Yeah I think Deanna saw through her... I think Carol gets these ideas in her head and just goes with them, and doesn't really realize she's kind of transparent. It seems like she thinks she's helping keep the group safe, but I thought she was pretty obvious. I appreciate that they're all - rightfully so - paranoid at this point, but her crazy smile was creeping me out.
The Noah thing was just dumb. I guess it makes sense to not put all of the group's strongest on supply runs because if you're not fully trusting them, that could put you in a bad position. I was glad Glenn punched that asshole.
I thought Deanna said she had more than one son and her husband... did she say what happened to them? I kind of wonder if they are the exiled? It seems crazy though, but we didn't see them and I thought we would have.
Something small bothered me last night and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Doesn't it seem like their extra sturdy architect designed walls are backwards? Shouldn't the supports be on the INSIDE of the walls? When they showed Rick, Coral and that girl outside of the walls the supports were on that side. I'm not a builder type but that seems pretty dumb?
Anyways, I think Deanna wants Rick's group in because she knows that her son is a power hungry douche and that he will be the downfall to Alexandria. She doesn't have the power or ability to stand up to her own son so she brings in Rick to do it for her.
While I understand the desire those first nights to stay in one house as a group it was ridiculous that they all slept on the floor. Come on, at least take turns sleeping in a bed or pull a mattress on the floor. And on that- they are all looking out the windows all paranoid- yet they are surprised by a knock at the door. Um--- WTF are you keeping watch for if you are surprised by a blind spot that is the front door.
I thought Daryl with the possum was hilarious. Carrying it around and then gutting it on the pristine porch.
Carol...I don't know what her motive is. I cringed when she talked about Ed. On the one hand, this is a chance to reinvent herself. Maybe it was all the time on the road taking its toll on her and the chance to not have to be on the run anymore is enticing. I'm unsure. But her "keeping up appearances" outfit was hilarious. She did look ridiculous.
I think it is interesting Deanna wants Rick to be constable - which pretty much means to me that the problems are on the inside. She didn't say she wanted him for security against outside forces. And, since he's a new, neutral party... he could have more authority. So...that's interesting.
What I don't get it is - how Deanna's group was able to follow Rick's group totally and completely unnoticed. Especially since they don't seem to really have a lot of...survival skills. And also, wasn't Abraham ex-military? Still - I want to know how they have power and running water and everything. Its been two years. They can't have generators. I think I kind of missed how they said this was all working.

It was a planned community before the ZA, so they have solar power, water treatment, etc. In one scene you could see big solar panels in the background.
I agree I thought the supports on the outside didn't make sense. What if a herd comes through and knocks down the supports - then what? The walls didn't seem as sturdy as Aaron made them out to be - didn't he say they were a couple feet deep? I was thinking concrete Berlin Wall replica - not some flimsy hurricane shutter looking wall. I also cringed when Daryl skinned that possum on the porch. Come on - go on the grass dude! He is definitely feeling creeped out by everyone which makes sense.
I also enjoyed Rick's many monosyllabic grunts in agreement with Michonne and Carl. He is looking very sexy without his homeless beard Especially after the shower
Aaron apparently worked with some NGO pre-ZA where he traveled to hostile areas and I would guess he has some skills in blending in and being able to watch groups/get a sense of what they are like. But I agree, they seem a little derpy.
And it's clear there are issues inside - one being with Deanna's son, since she was glad someone knocked him on his ass.
Yeah my husband wouldn't shut up about the supports on the outside, too. I figured maybe he was inside at that point and we had just gotten confused. IDK though.
Who took Rick's gun from the blender?
Those dumbasses stringing up a walker? C'mon now. I'm glad Glenn had it out w/ them - that scene was amazing.

YES. Â I had forgotten that he was attractive! Â
Yup - he's a hottie. I liked him when he was the cute BFF that had a crush on Kiera Knightly back in Love Actually. I didn't realize it was the same actor until just recently though. When he stepped out of that shower...mmmm mmm mmm.

I thought the same thing about the wall. Maybe he just hadn't gone on the outside yet? But then when creepy teenage chick was climbing the wall, I didn't see any supports. Also, do you think the exiled people took his gun? Maybe that weird zombie under the garbage was one of the exiled people that turned. He wasn't there when Rick left it.
I think the girl maybe took the gun. She seemed a little off. And she clearly goes in and out without people knowing. I know that last week, a few people mentioned they thought someone was watching from that shack...could have been her? It's obviously fairly close.

Maybe, but DH and I thought Morgan. He was to catch up before ASZ but did not so I think he is still following them.
I don't know this part, but is this a play at someone expelled joins Negan? I know that Andrew Lincoln mentioned he'd be arriving somewhat soon so I am wondering?
I really enjoyed the episode. It moved well and I just liked it, finally. NExt week looks good as well. Darryl did look like a lion in a cage so I wonder how long he will last, though the preview mentioned the ASZ is watchng him like a hawk (seems like a test may be coming on?).

Also, she just kind of walked in with the commotion and no one said anything to her. Now, they were watching the fight, but seemed odd.

I like Rick better with a little scruff.
I feel bad for Daryl. He would have felt out of place in this community pre-apocolypse, I'm sure he's dying to get out of there now.
I was also surprised to find out blonde lady had a husband for some reason. I wonder if he's her husband from before, or if they met after they settled there? I'm anxious to get to know more about this community and the people there. I think Deanna has probably made some bad-ass (probably necessary) decisions in the past 2 years of being leader and she seems confident in her role, so it will be interesting to see her and Rick interact moving forward. It also will be interesting to see what jobs she gives everyone, and if they accept their assignments.
They told Rick's group that they were the first people they'd invited in, but then that teenager girl said she'd only been there for three weeks, what was with that? I wonder if she was with the three who were exiled, or if her leaving was because she'd been outside for so long that she needed to get back out for a bit.
I couldn't help but think those teenage boys were a little too...clean. Great they go to school, but I hope they're also learning survival skills and how to shoot a gun.

Yes - we noticed that too. And then I wondered if what they had said was, "you're the first GROUP we've invited in ..."? But this random teenager was just a one-off, maybe.
They need to give Daryl the kind of job that will get out him outdoors. Like, hunter. They still need fresh meat - why can't he be their guy? Raccoon chops and applesauce, yo.
I think Rick needs to be in charge of deciding who gets to stay, and also dealing with external threats.
I find it absolutely amazing (and unbelievable) that they've been around 2 years, and have never dealt with a huge hoard coming their way? Or actual bad guys? Carl was right - they are all way too soft.
I'm interested to learn more about the people on Alexandria. I could help but notice there were no racial minorities there. That seems weird to me because all the other groups have had some diversity. I doubt that actually has anything to do with the plot but I found it odd. Something is up with community and I think it's more than just their weakness. They're Lilly whiteness made me feel uneasy.
DH thinks that the girl is reporting back to someone in the woods and is basically spy. I'm leaning more towards she just needs to get out of there because she's not used to living like that. I also thought it was funny that the lady kept inviting Carl over to hang with her sons. Carl isn't a typical well adjusted teenage boy. Why would she think he'd have something in common with her kid?
I thought the teenage girl had been there for 8 months but it took her 3 weeks to talk? I may be remembering the scene with the teens wrong though.
Even if they have solar power, how do they mow their yards? Electric mowers? Those still make noise and would attract walkers. Most of the yards in there were pristine with only some growth on the outer edges.

yes, she had been there for 8m but didn't talk for 3 weeks.
It's so very stepfordish there. Maybe they have some grass that doesn't grow or something? There's some super expensive grass that you can get that apparently requires little maintenance... one of our friends was researching it.

I thought Deanna said they were the first they have invited in a long time, not the first ever.
I think Enid took the gun. At first I thought it was the gun they gave Tara when they went out on their trial run. But when Carl was following her, Enid lead him right to the house. I wonder how that plays into her story.
