In an unrelated comment, the testing schedule is messing with regular class time because I never know who I'm going to have and who's testing from one day to the next.

Ours start today but my grade isn't for a couple of weeks. In prior years I remember doing a million kegels during testing because what else are you supposed to do while staring at kids for 3 hours.
PDQ Due to my state's governor's wonderful treatment of teachers and attitude towards education lately, my school is seriously considering boycotting state testing this year. It's gotten ridiculous.
kandrze1 it really is ridiculous. I can't believe the things he wants and the way he's treating us. The teachers in my school are really upset too, I'm not sure what action will be taken. I'll be missing the testing window this year because of my leave (I'm not sad about this).

I don't really care about our state test results this year. It is the first year of it "counting" because it is a new test. So this year will be baseline data. If they don't do well, we have no where to go but up!
How many times a year do they do this testing in public elementary schools?
I could be off because I haven't seen a testing schedule yet this year, but in NY 3-8 are tested in math and ela. 4th and 8th have a science test. Ours start in April and go until the end of May.
I am so glad I'm on maternity leave for testing. We don't have enough computers, so testing takes more than a month as we rotate students in the computer lab.

State mandated? Once a year for students starting in grade 3. My students are tested in language arts and math. They do testing over 5 test sessions. 5th and 8th do science also. So they have 6 sessions.
but we do district testing 3 times a year in addition to that.

I didn't realize it was that frequent. I need to read up on the testing at H's school. I know it's 1 week in Fall for 1st through 8th but it's private school.

Ours is ELA and math for 3rd and up. 5th has science. The state has estimated it will take 7 hours of time for the average student so we are estimating way more. This is our first year of sbac

We are an SBAC state also. We piloted last year and I would say 7 hours was pretty accurate for most of my student. Math was quick but the ELA tests were very long.

Our school is 90% free reduced lunch/85% ELL... we never do "average" I'm estimating kids who try will use about 10 hours, kids who it's way too hard (and just click through and hold down keys in text boxes) might need about 4.
oh and I'm responsible for scheduling it all out but I'll be on leave when most classes go through. We only have 1 week before spring break we can test and then most will be after and that's when I'm done.

Our testing is so messed up. Originally, our state had all juniors taking the PARCC test. So all first semester, we were trying to prep the juniors so they knew what to expect come March. Then when we returned from winter break, we found out the state let the school districts decide and the majority voted for freshman to take the test. Then, we were told we can now do the pencil-and-paper test instead of computer based without repercussions.
Today was the state ACT day, so juniors were testing most of the day. Freshman and sophomore take other tests, as determined by the school.
I had the honor of proctoring the PLAN to freshman today. Good times.
DS1 has standardized testing this week. They use the Iowa Basics. This is not our state, I have no idea if it is something the diocese chooses or if it is state mandated.

What grade level? They give terra nova to all 2nd graders for gifted screening in my district. Also, it's used as an alternate to 3rd grade guarantee.
