Right now I am still harvesting beets, lettuce, spinach, carrots, and turnips. I have herbs that go pretty much year-round, basil, rosemary, and cilantro. My peas are starting to come up. I just planted 2 kinds of tomatoes, jalapenos, sweet peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, and eggplant. The girls have a plot with their 4H club in the community garden in town and they are growing eggplant, peppers, corn, watermelon, and tomatoes. I think I'm going to plant some more things at my mom's house, she has 4 big planter boxes but no time to plant them right now. We are super busy with the county fair with the girls right now, so hopefully I can squeeze in some time to get things in the ground before it gets too hot.

We're planting tons of zinnias, African marigolds, celosia and then we already have peonies and blue salvias. On the edible front, we have all of our herbs: oregano, sage, parsley, rosemary dill and mint. We'll add tomatoes, green peppers and cucumbers and my DS wants to try strawberries this year.
I haven't quite gotten to planning things yet. I'm dreaming, though, and love to see what others have planned!
This year will be year 3 of my Square Foot Garden. It basically ends up being a salsa garden...tomatoes & peppers plus a few other things. I also grow herbs in pots, have a small strawberry pot, and I'm thinking about adding more berries this year. We'll see!
My mom is bringing a starter tray this weekend and I'm going to try planting from seeds this year.
Tomatoes, squash, peppers, cucumbers, basil. Last year we had a woodchuck problem. I had mini pumpkins and gourds planted, he pretty much went though and ate all of those plants. I guess I'll need to put up more fence this year.
How are raspberries? I'm wanting to put in a few berry bushes/brambles, and possibly a fruit tree, but I remember getting pegged by rotten apples my brothers threw at me from my parents' apple tree, lol, and all of the bugs. Are they a lot of work?
Awesome! The previous owner had planted the raspberries and they had completely taken over the garden, so when we wanted to start our own garden, we had to rip everything out and till everything else under. We dug out and saved a few of the raspberry canes and transplanted them into the new and improved garden. It drove home the need to keep them under control because they will take over. We keep them confined to exactly where we want them and, as much as it panes me, remove them when they crop up in unwanted places. We keep a fair amount of space between our rows since they do have thorns and they hurt like a bitch if you caught up in them. We string twine between stakes as support for the canes, which is really the most work and since we didn't go overboard with the size of the patch it's not too much trouble and we usually only have to do it once a season. If we used wire or something other than twine we would probably have to do it even less than that.
It's hard to tell how much they really produce since B eats them off the canes as soon as they're ripe. Raspberries right off the canes are so much sweeter than the ones in the store. We haven't had any problems with bugs, but I think that's more luck than anything else.
This will be my second year having a garden. LAst year I just picked a bunch of random things...I hope to have some sort of plan this year.
I have 4 small raised beds. One has 2 rose bushes in it. I plan to do veggies in the others...as much as I like flowers, I killed more than I enjoyed last year.
Last year looked like this: 2 tomato plants, 1 Zucchini, 1 Squash, 2 Okra (I had NO IDEA how huge those teeny tiny sprouts I got would grow to be!), bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, banana peppers and herbs.
This year I'm thinking...
1 tomato plant, or 1 large breed type (Big Boy) and 1 cherry tomato plant. We were drowning in tomatoes bell peppers jalapeno peppers Okra--I'll put these in their own bed, probably. Squash & Zucchini
I plan to put my herbs in a container close to the door. Last year my cilantro bolted and I was sad.
I just received my seed order last week. I am so excited. If anyone is interested in heirloom seeds, check out Baker Creek Heirloom seeds rareseeds.com
Garden: Cucumbers - small gherkin type and regular slicing/pickling jalapeno peppercini Tomatoes - canning/slicing variety Tomatoes - minibell. Very sweet and small bush to grow in planter. These are just a bit bigger than a blueberry. tomatoes - yellow cherry. For salads and pickling black tomatoes* this was a freebie so I am intrigued Lettuce - small romaine and boston Edamame Squash red and yellow peppers Green beans (bush) Cilantro Dill Broad Leaf Sage (for herbs and for mosquito repellent) Basil
Marigolds (chicken garden and deters rabbit/deer) Borage (chicken garden and attracts insects for garden) Bachelor's Buttons (chicken garden) Scarlet Sage (color for hummingbirds and chicken garden) Black Eyed Susans for all over the yard - chicken, around the garden, and outfront Lemon Balm (flower that repels mosquitos) Pennyroyal (greenery that repels mosquitos) Lemon Grass (repels mosquitoes)
The chicken garden and colorful flowers go around the outside fence of the garden. Left over flowers and the plants that repel mosquitoes go in my front yard in two boxes around trees and then two long boxes that run the length of the house. Mosquitoes can be brutal at times so I am trying to find different ways. I have no idea if it works, but worth a shot.

Try growing your cilantro inbetween your tomato plants - you can do this with basil as well. They plants are beneficial to each other. Also it may slow the growth of your cilantro

Oh, great tip! I'll definitely tried that. My boss told me to plant marigolds to help keep the bugs away--it definitely worked.

We're renting so I'll just be supporting the local farmers around here. Thankfully I can get just about anything! Hopefully next summer we'll be in our own place and I can have beds of my own. I'm so jealous of you all in here!

The lemon balm and lemon grass work like a charm for us! We have both in our side yard and never get mosquitoes there. In the back yard, where I didn't plant them, we get them. I'm convinced it's the plantings!

mala the seeds are quite inexpensive. I spent $67 for everything above, all the veggies, herbs, flowers, plants. If you bought heirloom seedlings at the local nursery it would run @ $5 a pop. Even at the Farmer's Market - they run $2ish a piece. This is the third year I have used them, and never had a bust from the seeds.
H and I built garden beds in the fall. I'm excited to get them planted this spring. I think we'll be growing: -3 kinds of tomatoes (something for snacking, canning, and slicing) -bell peppers -various hot peppers -spinach, various greens -cucumbers -zucchini -winter squash -carrots -beets -garlic -green beans

Yeah, I just ordered. I'm glad I didn't order yet through one of the bigger suppliers. I only spent $50! and I got so much more than I would have gotten for that price elsewhere!
