Because of my husband's line of work, we have to get it done by an Accountant at her office. There are too many pieces to him filing. Before we got married, I filed mine at places like HR Block because mine are pretty basic.
We always take them. I'm to scared to do them myself. We found the greatest place this year which I was so happy about. We will use them every year until we move!
H uses TurboTax. He's also a CPA. I think next year will be much easier and he will just do them himself without TurboTax (I'm pretty sure we will only be able to do standard deduction and not itemized next year so it will be much easier). I used to do my taxes using TurboTax pre- marrying DH.
DH did them himself until he got a job where he had to file multiple states a year. Started using an accountant then and just stayed with him after the job change. So much easier this way.
SS. the past couple years, since DH started his own business, we've gone to a tax professional. this year, he wants to attempt to do them online. we haven't sat down to do it yet, but I'm not holding out much hope that it will go well.
I've done them the past few years on HR Block online. When H was active duty it was free to file online with them so we just kept doing it that way. I haven't done this year's yet. I wonder if there's any difference between HR Block and TurboTax?
We take ours to a professional. The cost isn't too bad. Usually we get back federal and almost have to owe state for some reason. Thanks to both of us getting the volunteer firefighter credit we usually end up getting back from state.
My husband is an accounting and finance major, but he refuses to do our taxes because in his words, "it's too easy to fudge on the numbers" so he is insistent on taking them to a professional.
