I never had any problems in my early days of nursing. A few minor clogged ducts but I could work them out easy. I don't really get engorged at all but twice in the last month I've had severe boob pain. Last month there was a massive clog and I was feeling a tad under the weather with some other telltale signs of mastitis. Yesterday I noticed hardcore pain in the same boob and area. No super obvious clog though. Then around bedtime I started having chills and aches that have only progressed.
Anyone end up with mastitis after nursing for a long time and being "established"? (I don't know what other word to use, lol) I'm concerned about something more serious, in which case I need to get into my OB's but we are about to get blasted with a snow storm (apparently) so I was just planning to go to a walk in clinic. My OB isn't really close either so it would require planning with the boys and we just don't have help and glad H is swamped at work
So, anyways, anyone else who has nursed for a long time get mastitis randomly? It's probably naive of me but I figured it happened mostly in the early days of nursing.
Eta: just felt both breasts at the same time (lol) and there is most definitely a lump/clog. I didn't notice it earlier but there is definitely something there. WHY!? Why am I getting clogged boobs now? After three straight years of nursing.

I have never had it but even though you've been nursing a long time you are tandem so you are producing a lot more than someone like me. If get it checked out. It can get nasty fast. I hope it's not it. If it is, I'd suggest lechitin supplements after it is treated and subsides. GL!

Thanks. I'll call now. I can barely touch the area. It hurts so bad. I did notice that on the same breast a few days ago I had a cut on the nipple. I need to cut Oliver's nails and figures he nicked me. I wonder if this is somehow related (probably not but who knows).
I'm on "mastitis watch" here too...I have a funny lump deep in one breast and have been feeling slightly off. I hope it resolves itself -- I don't feel miserable yet so I'm waiting and seeing.
I think it's anytime anything changes in nursing dynamics that can cause increased risk of boob issues. And just sometimes randomly too. Here, G is cutting her final molars and they both tandem nursed a bunch more while we were all sick. Which I kinda hate but tolerated then. And A just learned to crawl so is super distracted. That was enough to put everything a little bit off here.
