Do you regret it? Love it? Right now I have curly hair that goes just past my shoulders. I've gone as long as lower back, but never short enough that I couldn't ponytail. I've always wanted to try short hair, but I'm scared. I was thinking something like this would keep my front pieces from getting too poofy.
Is this a terrible idea? What do you do with short hair when you want it out of your face?
There are sometimes that I get annoyed with having short hair, but I was falling back on the ponytail too often so having it short forces me to actually do something with it. I say go for it. It doesn't take too long for it to be ponytail length again.

My hair grows super fast, so it's usually long just because I can't be bothered to go get it cut regularly enough to maintain a short hair style.
I got it super short (about the length in that picture, but my hair is stick straight) one time in law school, and I loved the way it looked.
But short hair is way, way more work (at least for me). When my hair is long I can let it air dry, throw it in a ponytail, and forget about it. When it's short, I basically HAVE to style it or it looks awful.
I prefer my short hair. I look *so much* better. Yes, it takes a bit of effort (I flat iron the front and put in one product), but to me, it is worth it.
And I'm lazy about looks. I maybe put on some eyeshadow sometimes. Good hair and waxed eyebrows make up for much.
JRo had a really cute one last spring/summer and it made me finally get the guts to do it, in July. I liked it for a few weeks and since have hated it. I just, in the past month, have been able to get it back in a ponytail. I can't wait for it to get longer. It just didn't look good on me.

Ditto. And I'm glad that there's been no mention of a "mom cut" thus far in this thread.
My hair is straight, not curly, so I can't speak to that aspect.

I mean, short hair does take maintenance. I get a cut every two months and a "touch-up trim" four weeks in to the cut (my salon does this for free--I tip my stylist $10 or so for the five minutes of her time). It's fine if you don't like it, but most cuts aren't going to look good months down the line.
I just cut my shoulder blade length hair down to a pixie cut. I've been wanting to for years and years and finally pulled the trigger. I love it! I'm so happy I finally went for it. I love my new look! The picture you posted is cute! Plus the style does look like it could be pinned back easily enough if it turns out to be unruly or unflattering. That said, I do not have curly hair and have no idea what styling is involved. I think you should call to your hair salon and ask to make an appointment with someone who specializes in curly hair and/or short cuts. I also think it's important to have an attitude of "it's only hair, it'll grow back".

I totally agree. I also don't think I really knew what to do with it? I could never really get it to look good and could never replicate what the stylist showed me. I need lots of help in the hair department, hence why I wear it in a pt all day.
I used JRo (seriously the pic you posted was so cute!) for inspiration. The stylist asked me what I imagined the back to look like. WTF? Idk just cut my hair. He also told me I had a low neckline. It was actually really cathartic for me because I had wanted to try it forever and finally did. I still wish my hair would look like JRo. I have wavy hair though so I could never get it straight enough and couldn't figure out how to style it.
So fan girl.
ETA: JRo, are you able to just wash and go, or do you have to use product, etc?

I totally relate! I can never get mine to look as awesome as my stylist does. I chalk it up to not being able to do things from the same angles she can. Also, being impatient. She has recommended rewetting my hair and starting over if it's not coming out the way I want it to. Um, nope. Not going to happen.
I LOVE MY PIXIE CUT! I had long hair for most of my life, but it ended up in ponytails 99% of the time. I have pretty wavy hair, and I honestly just run some holding cream through my hair in the mornings and am done. It's amazing. I do need to get it cut again, though, because it's touching my neck and driving me crazy.
I love my hair short, but maintenance is a pita! I really need a trim but trying to find time and money is hard. With that being said, there are days I dont even have to blow dry it. I love the wash and wear ability.

I made an appointment for next Saturday, she was busy this week. I think I'm going to do it. It's just hair. Even if I hate it, then I'll know that I hate it and it will be out of my system.

I have a bob that's the length of my hairline and stacked in the back, and slightly longer in the front. I LOVE it. I've had this cut for about 5 years now.
The key for me is to go to a stylist that I trust enough to just give her free reign. I told her that I wanted something that was easy enough for me to not have to do anything to and it'll still look good. Also, I make get it cut every 6-8 weeks and make the appointment for the next cut when I'm there. Otherwise, I forget and all of a sudden it's 3 months later and I look like a mess.
I always regret it when I cut my hair too short. It's curly and unpredictable. On particularly bad days, if it's long enough, I can put it up. If it's not long enough for that, I walk around all day feeling self-conscious.
Also, more length makes my curls nicer. And, I just don't think my face looks right with short hair.
I did this EXACT thing! I have curly hair and was getting sick of ponytails. I cut my hair just like that picture and absolutely love it!! (It may be a little longer in front). It was the first time I actually had my hair cut and not trimmed. I donated the hair. Seriously best decision ever.
After I get out of the shower I run a little Frizz ease mousse and then spray Frizz Ease dream curl. And done.

I never regret it. I don't miss a ponytail. If my hair is being crazy, I just twist the sides and pin then back. Looks cute and easy.
I have curly hair and have had the cut you PIP'd, a pixie, mid-way down my back and everything in between. My only issue is I get lazy with haircuts and just let it grow itself out. That's a bad idea.
I also have curly hair, mine is thick and coarse as well so I've only gone as short as collarbone. I actually really love it that length, it makes my curls so bouncy and healthy-looking, and it's pretty easy to style with just some curl cream. Depending on the amount of layers, I can put it in a ponytail but it's a very messy one. I also use headbands if all the pieces don't fit in the ponytail, and it looks cute.
I am now just growing my hair out long, like down my back, at 33 years old because I haven't had long hair since I was a little girl! I have always done between collarbone and shoulder-length.
@mrswindycity, I actually do think both lengths work for you, but I think it looks so cute short! Plus, spring and summer are coming, so lightening the load could feel really good!
I love it!! I wish I had done it much sooner. I use headbands when I want it out of my face, or a little ponytail (neither are the most stylish options though).
