Too many, but he's about to outgrow 2T. However, in that size, he probably has 8-10 total pairs of pants, about 8 sweaters/fleeces, about 10 casual shirts (long-sleeve) and probably another 10 casual t-shirts/short-sleeves. About 6 sets of pajamas in regular rotation.
And then a bunch of ish I bought that he never wears because it was impractical.
I'm hitting up a huge area consignment sale this weekend with plans to get the 3T wardrobe going. I found we had enough clothes for 2T, so will follow a similar guideline.

So for summer probably like 10+ pairs of shorts? Shirts 15+? Pants 10+ I don't really count but just keep buying stuff lol. I want enough that he can at least go like 1.5 weeks w/out repeating.

a lot. i don't count it. i buy pretty cheap stuff - carters, kohls, old navy, target. we get a lot of hand me downs too.
my best guess for summer stuff:
6 PJs 12 shorts 10 pants 20 shirts
this is probably a conservative guess.
ETA - for the 10 pants, about half are dressy/church pants and half are soft knit/play pants. Same for shirts, 1/3 are dressy and then 2/3 are everyday/play clothes.
A lot! I get a ton of hand me downs luckily, but if we weeded out stuff that I don't like putting him in it would be significantly less. We are done with onesies for the most part. What I wish I had more of is long sleeve t-shirts or thermals because it's so cold. For summer I plan on keeping him in jeans or sweats because I don't want him to scratch his legs while playing.
I will throw in here a minor AW as I put DS in overalls for 'dress wacky' day that are 3T (and were tucked away - because also, wtf to denim overalls, Grandma?) and they were almost too small but OMG so much cuter than I was expecting!
(Weird angle, they're not high waters like they appear to be)
We have a bunch of short sleeved onesies we got as gifts but nothing else. I will wait when it starts to warm up so I don't end up buying the wrong size.

I bet I will have 10 pairs of shorts and 15 tees. I got a big hand me down bag last summer, so I didn't buy much. I am hoping a lot of last summer's shorts still fit this year. I found I went through shirts quickly some days, especially water play day at day care.
I like the Circo tees from Target, and I will probably sprinkle in a couple of polo-style shirts as well.
I anticipate carrying over some lighter khaki pants and sweatshirts from spring.
I have no idea. I probably should get a handle on this, otherwise he might be naked. The hand me downs are thinning out after 18 months, so I don't think I have much. I might have to stalk the BST board.
Way more than I should. My friend has three boys ages 14-5 and I don't think she has ever thrown anything away. Between her hand-me-downs and the few things I have purchased I don't have to buy another thing until he is 5.
He has way too much, like pugz level of clothes, but I only dress him in a fraction of them because I deem some of them "too nice" and they stay on the hanger. I need to get over it. If he spills, oh well.
I don't kow about summer because he will be rewearing some items from last year I think and I haven't purchased anything other than 2 tea collection shirts on zulilly last week. Right now he has:
5 to 7 sweaters 5 or 6 thermal tees 2 or 3 cotton long sleeve tshirts 3 or 4 button shirts 2 or 3 long sleeve polo at least 6 or 7 jeans at least 6 or 7 other Chino/khaki pant type at least 4 sweatpant type 3 bathing suits for swim class 9 pajama sets incuding the 2 christmas ones we are still using
enough so that I don't HAVE to do laundry more than once a week. So, 7-10 pairs of shorts, t-shirts. Two bathing suits. A couple sweatshirts. Rain jacket and rain pants. Pair of sandals, pair of running shoes, rain boots
DS usually has about 12 outfits. Of course, he ends up deciding 2 or 3 are his favorite and wearing them 80% of the time. One thing I learned was to not get many specific outfits, where the shirt specifically has to go with the shorts/pants, because inevitably, one will get stained and the other will be useless. We usually do two loads of kids wash a week and we don't have any issues.
I recently posted in the pugz thread that DS3 had 37 pairs of 2T shorts. I refuse to count the shirts, but I packed10 short sleeve, 6 long sleeve, 2 hoodies, and 2 button downs for vacation next week, and his closet still looks totally stuffed.
In my defense, much of this is a function of passing clothes down between three same sex sibs and not being able to resist a few new things along the way. Plus my mom and MIL buying stuff.
I'm pretty set on clothes for summer as long as he can wear 24 month (which I bought last year). If anything he'll need some plain ts and another swimsuit.
Currently we've got 5-6 pairs of jeans/pants and more shirts than you can imagine for AJ. Not a ton of stuff for spring/summer but slowly accumulating, we'll probably end up with approx 10 pairs of shorts/summer pants and a crapton of shirts again.
DS is 3. I haven't bought anything for summer yet, it's still the icy tundra here in VA. But here's my best guess for amounts. This lasts roughly a week.
6-7 sets of 4-piece cotton PJs 15-20 t-shirts 10 pairs of shorts 8 pairs of pants 20 pairs of socks (where do they all disappear to?!)

Last summer DS was in 2T clothing; I think he had 4-5 pairs of shorts and 8 shirts. I think almost all of the shirts went in the garbage after the season was over, b/c try as I did with the stain remover, some of the stuff just never came out. I bought a similar amount for this summer, but I also own that I tend to be a minimalist when it comes to clothes.
We always have way too many clothes for each season. I'm purposefully trying to hold back on buying a lot in 3T which he's getting close to growing into (for height). I say this as I'm waiting on a box of toddler clothes and shoes I just ordered from Kohl's.
In 2T summer clothes we have at least 20 t-shirts and 15 pairs of shorts. Plus 4 swimsuits and 2 rash guards. I'm not sure if the shirts will work for this spring/summer but I'm hoping the shorts can be used again since length isn't as big of a deal. I did buy ahead some at the end of last summer and have about 6 pairs of shorts and 10 shirts in 3T as well as 2 swimsuits and a rash guard. I did just impulse buy another swimsuit and rash guard at target today.

I used to buy a lot but J outgrows things so quickly, he sometimes only wears things once. For this winter, I bought maybe 8 pairs of pants, 4 long sleeved onesies to go under things, 10 long sleeved cotton shirts, 1 sweater, 2 button downs.
I haven't bought a single thing for when it gets warmer. I'm waiting until it gets warm then will decide, based on his size.
