If my husband gets home at a decent hour tonight I'll have him weigh in on the pictures. That is crap that your pedi makes you feel like you're wasting his/her time when you call the after hours line - you're right - it IS their job!
FWIW - skin issues are super complicated. My husband is lucky to work in a large clinic that encourages exchanges between specialities, so when he gets something in he doesn't immediately recognize, he can literally take the patient by their hand and lead them to the derm/ENT, etc. and get a secondary diagnosis immediately. In this case your pedi should have referred you to a derm if they didn't know what it was. We actually just got back from taking our own daughter to the Mayo clinic to see a sub specialist in pediatric derm b/c of a very rare rash/condition. I cannot talk highly enough of this physician. Granted it was Mayo so like best in the world, but if you have a good ped derm near you, i'd highly suggest going there, assuming insurance will cover it to some extent.
One of my kids had a rash recently (WTF? I really can't remember which one!) and the pedi said it was an unknown virus. It just went away. I hope E's is similar.
L had HFM this past November and didn't present with the typical symptoms. I actually wasn't 100% sold on him having it until I came down with the mouth sores and then bumps on hands and feet.
I'm glad E is able to sleep. Definitely get it checked out tomorrow. And that head pedi sounds like an ass. Even with how it looked on Sunday/Monday, it was still enough to make any normal parent worry. Pedis may see it all the time but we don't and that doesn't mean we're overreacting. Obviously something is wrong! Poor baby doll. I hope she feels better soon.

Oh goodness!!!! I'm so sorry. Poor girl. I would bring her in. DD had a rash on her face and back that has been around for a week. Doctor thinks it was a yeast infection that spread. It wasn't nearly as red and big as your daughters though. I hope you get some answers and relief for her soon!
FWIW, I just had DD at the doc for a strep test after a friend's son who we were vacationing with got it. The nurse practitioner said that it is really uncommon for kids under 2 to get strep. I hadn't heard that before, but thought I would throw it out there.

I hope she's better in the morning, poor girl. Maybe she's just prone to rashes? I've had a couple viruses in the past few years that gave me a funny rash. I had a low fever for a day, maybe, and they were throat-related symptoms otherwise. When I went in the first time, the dr. had no idea wtf it was, just told me that it was probably a virus and to go home. Hopefully, it's something like that...but I'd take her in anyway
So I had dh take a quick look via my cracked cell phone screen so take it for what it's worth, ha! He said some big words that meant nothing to me and then said it meant that it looked like a form of atypical hives to him which would be consistent with a reaction to dry skin + virus. Something with the way that they had a center marking and blanched out from that... I don't know. Benedryl is your friend right now, and perhaps topical steroid for itchiness too. Hope she feels better soon!!
I haven't read through everything yet. But here we have Children's Hospital close to home locations that are open when doctors offices are closed. I think she needs seen.
Keep us posted. I was worried about breathing if it's an allergy. It's all connected. (I have both allergies and breathing issues) Let me know if I can help you in any way!
