I have found that if I do a switch grip for ctb pull-ups I have a much better chance of getting them, especially if there is any volume. I still kip, but I also need that little but more of a pull which the switch grip seems to allow me to get better than a straight grip. If you haven't tried, it's a least worth a shot, that is if your hands aren't too torn up now.
I'm excited about this one. I got through round one plus 36 last year and think I may be able to get into the third round this year. I'm going to try to break everything up from the beginning and rest throughout as opposed to getting done as fast as possible and resting until the next. 3 minutes start. We shall see tonight how that works out.
Ooh, I'll have to try switch grip. Maybe I'll head to the box after my run to test it out before I do the WOD tomorrow. I can do a few chin over bars (scaled) but I'm still not good at it I'll probably get to the third round and be done.

Good luck, rubiakt! I tried switch grip for the first time today, and it was not good unfortunately. Whatever. I'm going to lunch with a friend and am not allowed to think about it again until after that, so I'm peacing out of this thread until later.
I nearly always tear on the center of my palms and never on callouses. So weird.
Ditto. It's cause I have to use SO much of my hand on the bar to do C2B, especially, that I tear up my palms. Efficient pull-uppers can keep their grip in the pads of their hands/fingers... I am not one of those.

Neither am I. Like at all.
IDK, I'm pretty good using my palms so I'm going to KOKO.

I got through 38 C2B in this WOD last year and I did every single one as a single. Jump up, big kip, pull up, drop. Rest 3 seconds, repeat. I had figured out the math that I basically had 6 seconds per pull up, max, if I wanted to finish. Several women in my box with "better" pull ups than me got worse scores because they tried to do sets/string them together, etc. and got to failure way faster. The switch grip is hard for me with kipping (my shoulder mobility must just limit me there) but it DID make a difference once I started to feel failure coming-it was a little renewed strength. Definitely test it out.

Thanks! Graat advice! I was trying to figure out if I should string them or not. Stringing them together is where I have issues. I can totally do more the way you suggested. Thanks!! The OHS are at 45# so I will fly through those like nothing and have plenty of time to work on the pull ups.
I did two C2B yesterday afternoon. I did them supine grip with not much kip and then once I had my chin over the bar kicked to get my chest to just barely touch. Neither efficient nor elegant, but it worked! Today I'm going to practice regular ones a bit more, and I'll do it Monday with the knowledge that I have my supine option as back up. I just want a score of 11 or 12!
I didn't do it. :-( I've been sick with the gunk/cold/crap and feel terrible-plus pregnancy makes it impossible to take anything. Had it been a new Open WOD I would suck it up today and try, but since I did it last year, I don't hve the urge. I'd probably need a respirator after like 5 squats though.

I got 10. I tried for 2 and a half minutes to get a CTB and I couldn't. My rationale was my 10 would keep me higher overall than my scaled score which would have been a lot more
18 scaled for me. I'm considering it a victory since pull ups are about my least favorite Crossfit exercise and I still go back and forth using a band for regular WODs.

This is somewhat random, but I think it's kind of shitty that there was no reminder sent/posted about the fact that the US changed the time (not that I'm surprised at all). I suddenly remembered that I'd seen people complaining about losing an hour, which meant we needed to submit our scores by 9 pm last night instead of 10 pm, thank god, but tons of people around the world have no reason to be up on the time changes in the US.
I get that it's personal responsibility and also that ideally you shouldn't leave things til the last minute, but so many people doing the Open are from other countries.
