I overslept by two hours yesterday and was late for work. I do not remember my alarm clock (iPhone) going off at all, so I must have turned it off in my sleep. I was startled awake by the realization that I was late and spent the rest of the day feeling out of sorts. I just ordered an alarm clock with a light that gradually increases in brightness, hoping that it will be a more pleasant and effective way to wake up.
What is your wake-up routine? Please share any helpful tricks/advice!
I have never once over slept, knock on wood. My body naturally wakes up.
Sometimes if I'm paranoid I do put my alarm crock on my desk across the room so I have to either stand up to turn it off or really stretch across the bed.
I get up at 5 every day. If H is getting up at 5, we just get up to his alarm, If he is getting up 'in the 4s" as I call it, he sets his alarm, I set mine.
I don't really have any tips though, I've always had an easier time getting up early vs staying up late.
The solution is to get 3 dogs, have them all sleep in your bedroom, and feed them first thing when you get out of bed. Then the second your alarm goes off, they'll all jump up and run around and you'll have no choice but to get up.

I turned my phone alarm off without realizing it twice this week, which is really unusual for me. My solution was to change my alarm tone - I feel like I get used to them after a while and can block them out more - and set a second alarm in case I accidentally turn the first one off instead of snoozing it.
My DH has an internal alarm clock like nobody's business- he has never used an alarm. So normally I tell him when I need to wake up- I hate alarms that wake me up with loud noises. But if I am worried I won't get up- an early flight, etc. I will still set an alarm.
I don't typically have a set wake up time so I usually wake up between 7-730 on my own.
I use two alarms (iPhone). The first is one "harp." It's soothing and gently gets me into an almost awake stage. Then, "old phone" kicks in ~20 mins later and jolts me the rest of the way awake.
Luckily, H is a morning person and always up before me. Usually long out of the house. I've tried to set myself on adult/office hours for 20 years, and it's just not happening. So this is what I do. Without an alarm, I wake up between 8:30 and 9:30.
I started setting an extra alarm 9 minutes after my normal one goes off. It's a different sound so it jolts me awake. I turn the alarm off if I'm groggy enough instead of snoozing it so the second alarm does the trick.
I hate getting up in the morning. My goal is to get up at 5:30. I have 3 alarms set on my phone (5:00, 5:30, and 6:00). I also have a regular alarm set for 5:30, that I have across the room. It doesn't stop me from snoozing, but having to get out of bed helps wake me up.
I set my small travel alarm clock, but my husband sets his iphone. It's weird: I almost never hear his alarm go off. I usually wake up 30-60 minutes after him (I work from home, so no commute), so I guess I'm just sleeping deeply during that time.
I pretty much stick to a basic routine for going to bed at the same time each night (weekends too) and getting up at the same time. I do not need an alarm clock as long as I go to bed at the usual time. If I have need to get up at an earlier time, am traveling or have other routine disruptions, I will set an alarm clock and put it on the dresser.
I go in to work later but if I have to get up early I set an alarm clock I have had since middle school that's on the other side of my room so I have to get out of bed to turn it off. It's set to country music which I HATE so I move quickly to turn it off.
The solution is to get 3 dogs, have them all sleep in your bedroom, and feed them first thing when you get out of bed. Then the second your alarm goes off, they'll all jump up and run around and you'll have no choice but to get up.
Viable alternative: Only have two dogs and use their hunger as your "natural" alarm clock. Works like a charm.
Yeah... if we ever sleep through our alarms, our cat makes sure we are well aware that it is her breakfast time. She starts running around the room, walks all over us, head butts my face...
My actual suggestion is set your normal alarm and then have a backup alarm that you need to get up to turn off. I hate mornings
My alarm goes off at 6am and I lay in bed for abut 10 minutes before getting in the shower at 6:15am. My H's alarm goes off at 6:35am. The coffee maker goes off at 6:45am and the kid wakes up at 7am.
Not waking up somewhat on time is not possible for me!
