i think there were people who were WAY harsh in the other thread. i totally do not agree with some of what was said (and also - why? what provoked those comments? weird).
BUT
this type of deactivation-announcement has got to be the lowest, most pathetic form of message boarding second only to catfishing. please. get out of here with this fishing bs. super lame and high school, IMO.
Well it's either this, or people speculating for days on why you left, when you left, what your mental state was when you left, did you wash your hands before you left...
People saw my confession a week or so ago and equated it to murdering, what was it, 5 or 6 people? I confessed something that wasn't "zomg, I ate 2 whole Twinkies today" and people ran with it. It's what makes this place so entertaining.
Uhm. Posting a young teen girls address online and full name in AOL chatrooms CAN get someone murdered and/or raped. I don't see how you cannot see that. You're such an idiot to be all "la di da, ML ran with it" No, ML did not run with it. ML was pointing out what could have happened to the girl. She threw diet pills at you, sure that does suck, but you gave her name and address to people you didn't know, knew nothing about. Chatrooms are hot spots for predators.Â
You knew this when you were 15? If so, good for you, bright kid. I admit, again, I did not realize back when chat rooms first started that they were "hot spots for predators." I hoped to embarrass the fuck out of her and get her in trouble. THAT is how ML ran with it.

You didn't realize at 15 that giving a name and address out to people you didn't know could result in bad things? No one ever said "lacey, you know what, perhaps stay away from strangers" at least ONCE in your teen life?
LOL.
Being 15 doesn't excuse you. Lots of people are aware at what can happen with strangers at 15, 14, even 13, and 12! Imagine that.
*ETA: If you are old enough to solicit online people about sex, you are old enough to know it is a bad idea.

Dude. She's already down.
If she didn't say goodbye there would be several more posts wondering where she was complete with speculation about why she left.

LOLOLOL yes, I did know this back then, not because I was bright, but because I would have considered sending strange men to a person's house after making them think they were going to get sex IS PROBABLY NOT SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE DONE.
Not to mention that while yes she bullied you, that really isn't the way I'd think to get back at someone, ever, it's just WAY over the line.
This doesn't strike me as an attention whore-y GNGBCN. This is a nice person who is being zinged for no reason about her parenting decisions and maybe she's had enough of someone whose mission it is to be a snatch.

You are not that old. Chat rooms weren't new when you were 15, or even "nearly new." I was on dial-up AOL back when you were barely out of diapers, and taking computer programming classes before you wereeven born. This "internet was new" is a bogus defense. Chatrooms have been around longer than you have been alive, and almost as long as I have. But 13 years ago, even a young and stupid and unsupervised (with a possibly alcoholic mother) teenager should have seen enough made-for-television to be even mildly aware of the consequences of putting someone's name and address with a "come get me" message on the internet. You wanted to hurt her because she was bullying you. End of story.
Glad to know you know better now, but that is something that is worthy of being ashamed of and not defensive about. I hope you affirmatively teach your children about bullying and their consequences, and internet safety. And I hope you do even more to atone for putting that girl in serious danger. That is nothing worthy of what is coming across as laissez faire.
I'm 34, and I definitely didn't know what was going on in chat rooms at 15. I don't think I used the internet outside of school until I was in college. I didn't think I was THAT much of an anomaly.
Yup. 33 here. We didn't even have internet at our house when I was in high school, but I did get on a few chat rooms at friend's houses. We always lied about our names and ages but we definitely weren't schooled on internet safety like kids are now*
*not that I'm excusing someone sending strangers after a girl that bullied her
No mofongo Did it quote you? It was supposed to be quoting Lacey. Of the "the internet was young and so was I" defense.
Maybe it's because I took computer programming in high school...back when most of you were still in diapers, it seems ...but I was fairly aware of what was going on in chat rooms back when my kids (who are now in their 20s and 30s) were still in diapers. I grew up in cow country, so I never figured I was that much of an anomaly.

I don't think the Internet needs to be old news, nor do you need to be older than 15, in order to grasp that if you tell a bunch of strange men you want to fuck them and give them someone's name and address, those strange men might just show up.
Sally you have a lot of friends here. We make judgement calls all the time about whether to send or not to send to daycare. I know I do! I don't fault you at all for deciding to send her. ((Hugs)) and I hope you come back soon.
I was a fucking nerd at 15, so not only did we have the internet but I was very familiar with the AOL chat rooms, and in fact had three different screen names that I used for role playing games in both public and private chatrooms.
Lol. We may have crossed e-paths. I was such an internet dork.

Me too! My dad is a computer geek. We had mac computers back in the 80s when they first came out.
I remember we had Prodigy, so then when we got AOL, it was like the best thing ever! Chatrooms were the shit, I felt so cool lol.
