Kids aren't idiots -- they know the difference between the winners' throphy and the one for participants. And if they don't, they are likely so young that who the hell cares.
Throphy or not, kids know who won. There's nothing wrong with a throphy that basically says "congratulations for trying and giving it your best". Especially in a country where less and less kids are participating in physical activity.
Yes! My kids are the most active kids I know. Who cares if J gets a soccer medal he busted his ass 3 hours a week.
Another one I know quite a few people who refuse to put their kids in sports because they don't want to take them to games on Saturday. WTF? I understand this more from a working mom, but just because you don't want to get up early and get yourself somewhere is no reason for your kid not to play a sport with her friends.
I think the trophy for everyone is more a symptom of marketing and capitalism run rampant than sparing kids feelings. Some shmoe at a trophy company was meeting with his ad guy: "How can we sell more trophies?" "What if everybody gets a trophy instead of just the winners?" "Genius!"
So people don't like it because of capitalism?
No. I think thats why it happens. People dont like it because they think its done to protect kids feelings. Thats part of why people give everyone a trophy but i think its more about selling trophies or people feeling obligated to give something out. Its similar to everything becoming a gift giving occasion or favors getting out of hand at parties and weddings.
The only way it's similar to spam is that you slice & fry it. Totally different texture, flavor & color.
I am sort of intrigued. They sell it at a grocery store?
Not everywhere. It's regional, I think. But all grocery stores in the greater Philly and central pa area have it. It's with the bacon, sausage, pork roll (do you have that?).
