I need to share. I walked into the restroom at work and there was a used tampon on the floor. I donned a pair of gloves, took five paper towels (sorry environment), picked it up and deposited it in the trash, then Lysoled the spot on the floor while trying not to gag. I did not lick anything. Why are people gross? Who drops a tampon on the floor and leaves it there? I can't even look at anyone now without wondering if they are the person who left a used tampon in the middle of the bathroom floor. It doesn't help that my office has like 30 women and 1 man.

I cannot even imagine the situation that causes this to happen or who the fuck thinks it's ok to leave it if it does?! And you're better people than me because I totally would have left it there, I'm not sure I would have been able to pick it up without actually puking
I think you are a jerk, she donned more than enough PPE.
Okay? If I am a jerk because I think someone is gross for picking up someone else's used tampon regardless of how many paper towel layers she had, then I guess I am a jerk. Because Fucking EWW.
In a perfect world, the gross ass who's body it came out of. In my world, anyone besides me. I'm a jerk! I get it, but I would not touch a used tampon sitting in a public restroom regardless of circumstances.
Well I think that's fine that you wouldn't pick it up because I think a lot of people wouldn't. But why call the OP gross?! That was the decent thing to do instead of leaving it for the janitor who I'm sure has a lot of other nastiness to deal with at times.
LOL for days at someone being all "eeeee, why did you pick it up?!" She put on gloves and had TP, someone has to pick it up so A) the next person didn't think it was HER and B) to dispose of it so it isn't just hanging out there.
I am forever grossed out by what women do/leave behind in restrooms.
Seriously. SOMEONE was going to have to pick it up. Are janitors gross, tunasalad?
Seriously? No. They are not. It actually sucks for the janitor that it's their job clean bathrooms when there are such gross people around doing things like that. Myself included I guess since I would leave it there.
Surely you are not above a janitor and could clean it up just as well as they could.
Your attitude about how this is a janitor job is grossing ME out.
A few weeks ago, I was changing my tampon at work and as I went to throw it away I dropped it and it splattered on the floor. I, however, did clean up my mess. I can't imagine leaving that for someone else! You are a good person, OP.
No I did not say that at all. I said I would not have picked it up. It's gross. However, if I were a janitor and that was my job, then I would pick it up. Either way it's still fucking gross.
I'm not trying to flame you, truly I'm not, but surely you can see that it sure was kind of the OP to safely move it to the trash given that she has 30 female co-workers who will also be using that restroom. I think OP took one for the team, and I think that was very kind of her.
I do understand that you, and many other people, would leave it there. I would have done what OP did - layer up and pick it up as quickly as possible and then try to mentally bleach the memory from my mind.
She's realizing she just said that people who clean up others messes are of a lower caliber than she. And then realized that may get her flamed. So back pedaling started.

You specifically called the OP gross.
I think we can all agree that the whole situation is gross, but the OP is not the gross one.

DID YOU KNOW:
Janitors and You both have two hands, five fingers, and access to gloves/tp/plastic bags/etc? We have janitors at work that come in 3x a week, guess who has to clean up after ourselves/others the other 2 days? All of our staff. When the trash is over flowing - we take it out. When someone leaves something gross - we deal with it. Because we are adults and don't play this "ewwww, gross, only janitors should touch things because it is their job" game.
OP was NOT being gross. OP was being an adult who deals with it.

but janitors are beneath her.
because they do gross things.
little miss tunapants pivots and walks away.
I normally don't post in these kinds of threads...I just silently stand by and watch the stupidity unfold... But I am DYING at little miss tuna pants.

Omg at getting on her case for NOT wanting to deal with someone else's bloody tampon. I'm dying at the thought of a bunch of MLers falling over each other to be the first to get to the puddle of stranger's vomit on the bus.
Here's your cookie. I tossed it.
It's not like that, kev. It's not like anybody else HAS TO deal with the tampon, it was thoughtful of the OP to do it, and for that she shouldn't get called gross.
I totally get it that most people would walk past it, as they have every reason to do.
She's realizing she just said that people who clean up others messes are of a lower caliber than she. And then realized that may get her flamed. So back pedaling started.

I hope nobody ever drops a tampon and leaves it in your house...I guess it would rot there.

I think everyone agrees it's disgusting. But calling the OP gross is pretty moronic. Someone had to do it. OP is a hero here and deserves a giant glass of wine.
no no, it's been established that's ok for janitors because they're gross already.
OMG. Fucking stop already. I never said that or implied that I think janitors are gross.
You called OP gross for picking up the dropped tampon. People are therefore inferring that you believe picking up a tampon (something janitors probably have to do from time to time) makes someone gross. Is that so hard to understand?
It's not like anybody else HAS TO deal with the tampon, it was thoughtful of the OP to do it,
Yes, I agree. She's a better person than I. Because I'd tell the gossipy receptionist what I saw and conspire with her to start a rumor about who did it.
The next person who asks me for Advil would be suspect #1.
That's exactly why I bet Tuna is the office scapegoat. Everyone knows that if you see shit on the floor, you immediately tell the office gossip.
And also, picking up someone else's tampon IS gross. I'm sure OP would agree. But someone had to do it, so she did. Everyone is taking issue with the fact that you called the OP herself gross. No one cares that you wouldn't have picked it up.

If all she had said was, "OP, you are a much better person than I, I wouldn't have gone near it," I'd bet there wouldn't have been a reaction from anyone at all.
My old boss was a blood splatterer. She'd leave the bathroom and it would look like a murder scene up in there. I know this because she would tell me how bad her periods were. I'm so so so glad she's gone.
Thank you for cleaning up the floor tampon. I, for one, don't think you're gross.
