So i've been chosen to be a Godmother and the baptism is coming up this weekend. I am not sure what would be an appropriate gift. Right now my idea is money ($50ish?.) and a small gift (not sure what). Any good ideas for a gift that could be ready in time and not cost super expensive?
I was Godmother to both my nephews. I gave them $ ( I think I gave them $200 but I can't remember). At the time I also opened accounts in their name and for every Christmas or birthday, I would get them a gift and put $ into the account. They get the $ when they turn 18. The first one got his 2 years ago and used it toward a car.

My favorite gift was the pottery barn silver leaf first year frame. I have one for all my girls hanging in out hallway, the first one was a baptism present for Dd3 and I love it so much I bought them for the others

I like the idea of the account. Did you need any info of theis to open the account? My mom suggested a savings bond, but I didn't think they had those anymore.
Our good friends baptised both their kids on the same day, we were godparents to their son.
We have him a savings bond and I did a painting of the Irish blessing (in gaelic) and framed it for his bedroom wall.
We gave his sister a small silver crucifix pendant from Bluenile.com. Jewelry will keep until she's ready for it but I didn't want to be the 4th bible in the room.
I liked the idea of a crucifix pendant, but they're definitely more for girls. I was trying to look around if there was an equivalent for boys.
i do like the savings bond and painting you did. I just wish I has a bit more time.

I saw the frame as a gift idea on several websites, but would love to have enough time to personalize it. Perhaps I could do money now and a delayed frame after it gets personalized....hmmmm.

It was a while ago so I don't remember, I think possibly their SS#. You could always just open a svgs account in your name but payable upon death to your God child in case something (Good forbid) happened to you before you were ready to give them the money.
Baptism gifts, at least in my church (ELCA), are not big. I wouldn't spend more than about $50, and it would probably be a check and a small book of prayers or Bible stories for children. Some of the other things my kids got were baptism picture frames (not used) a few teddy bears, a cross that says "Bless this baby boy," a few piggy banks. One of the teddy bears is the one DS sleeps with, but the rest of that stuff was not used.

That's what I'm afraid of. Getting something that will just be thrown off to the side and forgotten.
