Does anyone have experience using Costco travel to book hotel and/or car packages? I am seeing some good deals on their site for our upcoming Hawaii trip. We don't have a Costco Membership as the closest one is about 30 minutes away so I guess we would need to buy one. Or do you think we could book with our friends' number if they were willing to share it? If you've booked a Costco package, were you ever asked to produce your membership card after booking or does anything automatically go into the name of the member? Trying to figure out our options. Thanks!

I just got one for Christmas, but I have to say that my dad got a rent a car deal through them that was amazing, like $250 or 75% less than the next best deal, and he can't even internet.
We have used Costco Travel for vacation pkgs, disney pkgs, and rental cars. I've recommended them to friends who have used them too. I've always had an above and beyond experience with their customer service and they've had the best pricing I could find on quite a few things over the years. Nothing negative to say about them.
You have to enter your member number when booking but we were never asked for the card when we picked up our rental car or checked into the hotel.
(We also used them for our trip to Maui.)
But these reservations would be in the member's name, right? Rental car companies and hotels will look at your government ID at check-in, so that may be how they keep you honest.

As long as you have a member number, you can book the rental car in anyone's name. When we went to Hawaii with my parents, their flight got in before ours so I booked the car in my dad's name. They were able to pick it up without me no problem.

I kind of side eye using someone else's membership to book your vacation. It's $50. Just get your own. The membership should pay for itself with just the one trip.
You'd need your own membership, but I think it's worth it! We haven't booked, but a friend got a screaming deal for Hawaii (flights, condo, car) through them, and my ILs did a different trip and were very happy with the price.

We saved about $100 for a week car rental in Hawaii plus you get the second driver for free (usually $25 per day) so that was a good deal. I just rented a car in San Diego and it was about the same as on orbitz. But still second driver Is free. We don't actually usually add the second driver since we don't want to pay but it nice to have Don't knownif you could do it on someone else's memebrship. Our closest Costco is 45 minutes away so I don't use it a ton but I love going there when I can
I booked through Costco for our Hawaii trip, Fairmont on the Big Island, with airfare and car for a week. By calling rather than going online, I was able to make changes and some upgrades as well (such as first class flight, view of room, etc.)

Nothing on our reservations indicated that it was via costco. But yes they did check my ID for the rental. The membership is in my husband's name, but I was the registered driver.

We have booked Costco trips to Maui and Kauai before. With Maui I priced out the exact same trip with Expedia and Costco saved us $400 and got breakfast included and got a larger car rental. So definitely worth to get the membership even if it is just for that!
I have actually been asked for my Costco card twice after booking cars through them.... once in Chicago (where I was surprised) and once in Tokyo (where I was not surprised at all, they follow every rule to a T).
I just got home yesterday from a trip and we rented a van through Costco travel. I didn't need to show my Costco card and the driver's name can differ from what is on the membership - my membership is in my maiden name and my DL is in my married name so the reservation was in my married name. Costco was the best rate we found by far.
