I would not mess with that. You do know that the local police and firefighters are all friendly? I didn't used to believe in this type of corruption, but I do after some really bad experiences, and I am not the sort to ever have involvement with police. There are plenty of upstanding firefighters and police officers, but there are also a few that use city equipment, harm others property, and deny it.
Personally, I'd go ahead and call both the police and your insurance company. Take pictures if you can of the snow tracks. Then, let the insurance fight this out for you. Besties or not, I can't imagine anyone getting involved in some kind of massive scandal over a broken mirror and a scratch.

There is no way if call insurance for something. It sounds like it's minor damage and I wouldn't be willing to pay my deductible for it. He's going to deny involvement and theres nothing insurance can do to prove it.
OMG. That sucks on so many levels. You're definitely not supposed to just shovel all your property's snow into the street... he claims he's doing you a favor by correcting that after hitting your car?!?! And you can't even do much about it because he's a fireman.
I'd still consider calling. He's got to be somewhat worried if he tried to hide the plow.
That is absolutely unacceptable and unethical! I work in local govenrmnent and that kind of whit would get you fired, or at least suspended in my town! I'd call the city manager or the mayor and raise hell!
Well you could call your local media, newspaper/tv channel and see if they would investigate. We have a TV station here that likes to dig in to things like that.
We have had over 154 inches of snow this winter (very typical for us) and live with tons of snow every year. Guidelines on snow include - no overnight street parking from November 1 to May 1 period. EVERYONE must park off the street. City takes care of the snow removal on the streets Residents remove snow from their own property and CANNOT put it in the street. May not put it on their neighbor's property with out permission as well. Those that do either of these things are ticketed. So what happens is we wind up with huge snow banks along driveways (mine are over 5 feet right now) and smaller snow banks along side walks. I am sorry your neighbor is a douche.
If you are brave you could play dumb and call the city (public works dept?) and ask about "renting" a city plow to clear out your area as you saw a neighbor using one to remove snow from his property and wondered how you could do the same.

I thought it was weird when my neighbor took a bucket and a shovel and scooped up the salt on the street right outside MY driveway and MY mailbox to put on his OWN driveway. This is the same neighbor who had a limb from his tree fall and damage my fence, and he thought he was so sneaky when he moved the limb from HIS side of the fence to MINE. I'd already taken pictures, dude, and the limb clearly belonged to YOUR tree because I don't have that kind of tree in my yard! We were planning to replace the fence anyway so I didn't say anything. But now I know the kind of neighbor he is.
Neighbors suck sometimes. I think yours wins though. Sorry.

Where I live, shoveling your snow in the street is a misdemeanor. My neighbor does thing every time it snows. I've been trying to bust him for it, but it just didn't snow much so far this winter (very unusual for this area) so we haven't had to shovel/snow blow a lot yet this year.
(ETA: I realize the above statement makes me look like a douchy neighbor, so I feel I must clarify that HE is the douchy neighbor. He yells cuss words over the fence at our dog while my kids are in the yard. He swears at ME. And he calls the city on us for not clearing our sidewalk of snow on time (we have 24 hrs, but sometimes we're a day late). Oh, and he also complains when the leaves from our trees fall in his yard in the fall. There's so much more, but I won't go into all of it now.)
Your situation sucks big time. It's bad enough to have a neighbor who is an ass hat, but it's even worse when he's an untouchable ass hat.

I've definitely called my insurance for accidents that we're not my fault (one relatively similar to this, in fact.) I didn't end up paying a dime and they didn't change my rate at all. They just got the money from the at fault party for me.
What an ass! I don't understand why people are so selfish when it comes to moving snow. We are all just as annoyed with it, and we are all in this world together.
Makes me feel extra happy with our neighbors (about 4 of us take turns shoveling the sidewalk in front of all of our houses).
