Or balayage. Are they the same thing? Well, whatever.
Is there a way that this looks not dumb? I'm used to it on longer hair, but my hair is a little longer than shoulder length.
I'm thinking about doing something to my hair for my birthday. My hair is medium/dark brown. I want to add some lightness to my hair and warm my complexion up a little bit. I don't really like highlights... too annoying to keep up with. I would love to go light all over, but again, I don't want it to be a pain in the ass to maintain. I don't like red - I have done it before, but it looks weird on me. Ashier, cool colors seem to do me the most favors.
Any celebs that have this that you can think of? Just for the sake of bringing in a reference.
Pinterest my friend. I did it last summer and loved it. I too have ash brown hair, so you just have to go to someone who understands that you want an ash blonde, not like a caramel or gold blonde. I say do it!
Ombre and balayage are different. Ombre is more of a harder line in the hair. Balayage is still lightened from the bottom up but also looks more sun kissed, natural and has face framing pieces that goes higher to the scalp in some places. Some people call Balayage sombre- soft ombre. I say go for it!! You know me, I love doing quirky/different hair things.
fwiw I prefer balayage over ombre. like PeonyParty said, balayage is a bit more natural looking. I'm like you, I like my blond on the cooler side. it's important to ask for that. and when you do get this done, get a purple shampoo (I like Clairol ShimmerLights, it's like $8 for a big bottle) to help the highlights stay ashy.
I'm totally doing this to my hair after kid is born.
I really like balayage. I think it looks a little more subtle, but I tend to go more for that look anyway. I like these (lol at the Kylie Jenner pic, but I do like the hair):
Ooh, I really like all of those reference pictures - thanks! I wasn't sure if with shorter hair there'd be enough length for a good transition, but now that I see some better examples, I feel good about it. Yay! I'll make an appointment. :-D
