We have a large hall bath (8' deep x 12' wide) that currently has a separate shower and tub.
I want to remove the tub and put the laundry along that wall and replace the shower with a tub/shower combo.
DH is fighting me because he says having the laundry in the bathroom is gross.
What says H&G?
(as an FYI, the laundry part would be on the opposite part of the bathroom from the toilet and bathtub. With the orientation of the room, the laundry would be on the left when you come in the door (which is left of center), the sink would be straight ahead and the tub and toilet on the right.)
We moved our laundry from the hall to the main bathroom shortly after we moved into this house. It makes so much more sense than where it was before, and for us was a great decision. So far pretty much everyone who has seen it (especially those who had seen the previous setup) has thought that it was a smart move.
I have laundry in my upstairs hall bathroom (we also have a master bath). The W&D are in a little alcove with closet doors to hide them. I find it convenient so far, but I don't have kids. If I had kids it might become an issue because I have a front-load washer that has to be open most of the time to prevent mildew. Also, my machines are pretty quiet, which is also a plus. Ideally I'd have a completely separate laundry room so that the bathroom can be free for use, but it works well for now.
I have my washer and dryer in our second floor bathroom and I like it because it doesn't take up a whole room because I know I would never keep a laundry room neat and organized. It's a pain dragging stuff up and down the stairs but I assume it would be like that for any laundry set up not on the same floor as the bedrooms. It's nice that I can just throw my son's stuff in there while he's playing or at bath time.
Why is it gross? I grew up with the laundry in the kitchen until it got moved to the bathroom. Both were normal to me, and I never even knew people had laundry rooms.
My laundry is in the bathroom and I did that way on purpose. Ha. I love it. Especially now that I have kids. I fold like a crazy person while they're in the tub.
Our apartment had stacked w/d in the main bathroom. I liked that I could close the door to muffle the noise.
I had no problems with it, and generally liked it better than my current setup of basement laundry (unfinished basement).
Our current laundry room is in the basement at the bottom of steep and narrow stairs in an unfinished room. Which is a big reason why I want to move it.
Our laundry was in a creepy basement in our old house. It's now in our first floor bathroom. I think it's excellent. The laundry fuzz and mess stays behind closed doors, it's easy to get to with muddy stuff or towels from the kitchen, and the bathroom it is in is our most used because of the shower. Starting a load of laundry at the end of the day is way easier when I don't have to travel through the whole house with laundry baskets.
My mom has her laundry in the kitchen, and because the kitchen itself is small, it is less than ideal.
