Would you host an 8th grade graduation party for your child

No. I didn't even have an 8th grade graduation, much less a party. I think it's dumb, keep it to K and high school, please and thank you.

I didnt have a HS or college grad party. I definitely didnt have an 8th grade grad party. 
FYI, you dont graduate from 8th grade, they're just moving to the next grade.

No. And 8th grade graduations are dumb. If my kids' school has one, well go and maybe have dinner out because we will be dressed nice, but that's it. No catd, gift, whatever. It's 8th grade. If you don't graduate you have bigger problems than not having a party.

No, I wouldn't. But I can see why people in my town would. Our public school only goes up to 8th grade and then the kids go to private HS, so the public school holds a ceremony.

Um no. Unless you get a degree you shouldn't be having a graduation much less a party. Passing 8th grade simply means you go to 9th grade.

My niece had an 8th grade graduation because her private elementary school ended at 8th grade. My sister was annoyed because no one in my family really acknowledged it. It was a big deal to her sure. But I'm not going to send a card when the public school attending nieces finish 8th grade either.

No.  Eighth grade "graduations" are stupid. What are they graduating from? Graduation only counts after 12th grade and college degrees. Thankfully, they weren't a thing when I was in school.

Well I was, and now my kids are, catholic school kids, they only go to 8th grade and then usually the kids are split to different high schools

NMS. It's a done thing for kids who attend K-8th indie and parochial schools. It kind of makes sense in that context since the kids will be scattering to different high schools.

lol…we have 'graduations' here for any grade that is the last grade…so our schools end at 5th, 6th , or 8th grade and then 12th grade…we have grads for all of them. Grade 8s get a dance too. And a parent usually hosts a grade 8 party but I would never do it because they almost always end badly.

I have a January birthday but somewhere in elementary school I started having "birthday" parties in June when our pool was open. I had a big birthday/graduation party. It was the night of the OJ Simpson car chase.

I think the new trend of kids "graduating" from each school type (preschool! Kindergarten! Fifth grade! Eight Grade!) is ridiculous. You want to throw a summer party for your kid's friends? Throw a party. But throwing it as a "graduation" party for a 13 year old seems silly, IMO. It takes away from the bigger HS graduation, which not only celebrates a huge accomplishment (for which they presumably worked pretty hard), but also marks the completion of a stage of life, and them starting a new chapter, heading out on their own.

Yeah, I'm probably over thinking it, but I don't care. Bah humbug!

We had an 8th grade graduation dance, the weekend after prom using the kroner prom decorations. That was the extent of it.
Now that I think about it I think they just wanted somebody to take down the prom decorations.

I like parties, so I'd probably have one, but not a present-type party, just a social event for the kids.

I did not have a party, and although the had graduation, I was in a musical, so I couldn't go.

But to follow on sue sues enthusiasm, I think throwing a more general "you're off to high school"'and it's about DS AND his friends, I'd do that. Parties are fun and I'm up for finding any excuse. But I would never throw a "look, MY speshul child graduated!" Party just for him and that would make people feel like they need to buy him a gift.
