There is no noise in the animal kingdom cuter than the noise a baby alligator makes. They're so adorable.
I love all sorts of animals/reptiles/bugs (not a huge fan of palmetto bugs, mosquitoes, and fleas, but who is?) and feel pretty lucky to live where there are so many cool creatures. Plus, no snow!
(I can make fun of Florida all I want but, much like a sibling, I will always come to its defense if someone else starts talking bad about it, lol)
We put in at some place called Bear Paw on the Chipola river one time, and we brought beer. Some little kids tried to steal it. LOL. Ye haw, Florida!
Yeah, we did coolers full of booze on Bear Paw too, but I don't think it's technically allowed. I don't think it's allowed at any parks, so people must be turning their heads at Ginnie Springs as well.
You shouldn't tube Itchetucknee anyway because NO BOOZE.
I go to ginnie springs for booze parties!
Is it allowed or are people just being slack & not checking? I'm fine with that. LOL. Not a big rule followers or anything, I just didn't think alcohol was allowed in the parks. I didn't realize it was okay at Ginnie Springs. Sounds like I need to plan a tubing trip!
We were driving to Big Bear in California when I was a kid. My dad drove over a rattlesnake that was in the road. He pulled over, noted it was dead and tossed the thing in the back of our station wagon, in the spare tire compartment, and had all four of us kids sit in the middle seat. We spent the drive listening to the last throes of the snake, tail rattling, for what seemed like two hours.
Seat belt laws were so much more lax back then.
Was he going to eat it?
Yup. Tastes like chicken. lol.
I won't go into the gory details but my brother had the skin and rattle for years.

Maybe it isn't allowed, but we sometimes had busloads full of people with a million coolers and no one cared. I also know people that camped at Ginnie Springs and they were definitely drinking.
I do think that we occasionally went somewhere right downriver from the springs, just another part of the Santa Fe river, that was definitely not part of any park.
I can't fathom living near poisonous snakes. However, I don't even bat an eye that I have a man hunting coyotes in my backyard as I type this because they are so rampant this year and killing everything in sight, including some neighborhood pets.

Good to know!
I wonder if they just say no alcohol to discourage it, but can't really do much to enforce it if it's not at a park. I'm fairly certain that Bear Paw in the panhandle isn't part of any park, (we literally pulled off of a highway to the tube place lol), but they had "no alcohol" signs. They never asked what was in our coolers. Actually, this was in college when we all worked for Home Depot & they also never asked what liquid was in the big pump up garden sprayers guys were taking into their tubes, either. Lol
Second, as a zoo professional, I can't stand the "only good snake is a dead snake" attitude. Yes, some snakes can be harmful to humans. But there's no need to maliciously kill every snake you can.

Ginnie Springs is privately owned, so it's allowed. In college, we'd bring a kiddie pool filled with beer to float with us lol

Ha! That's awesome. I had no idea. I've only been to Ginnie Springs once, and it was when I was much younger & not boozing.
Me too! (Work as one, herpetologist by study/love haha). I didn't realize there was another on the board
That's so cool. My brother thought about going back to school to become a vet specializing in herpetology, but decided against it after realizing just how many science and math classes he'd need as pre-reqs. He and his wife have a tortoise, 3 turtles and a ball python, though. The ball python is the sweetest.

Ball pythons are so sweet! I have a soft spot for tortoises, I've spent a lot of time studying them
I just realized I'm a hypocrite. Sharks are an eve more successful body plan and FUCK MOTHERFUCKING SHARKS.
Megalodons are the stuff of my nightmares. Nopenopenopenopenopenopenope.
I like sharks! Mostly. I swam with the whale sharks which are amazing and eat kreel, so no real danger. Although they are the size of a school bus. I also did a cage dive with bull sharks where they chummed the water and brought around four big bills. The cage was on the end of the dock with respirators. It was pretty awesome.
If I just ran into one at the beach I'd be freaked.
I stepped on a shark in St Augustine once. It darted out from under my foot and I saw it clear as day.
I got back in the water about 15 min later. It was hot.

I've never seen one while at the beach. But everytime I go skinny dipping in the gulf at night (maybe once a summer) I realize after that there were probably plenty nearby. Shudder.
You do realize that this is exactly how Jaws started, right? LOL.
I've tubed at Ichetucknee a ton of times and was always scared of an alligator eating my legs, so I would tuck my legs up on top of the tube. We used to live on a small lake and I was always afraid to let the kids near the water because it wasn't uncommon for a small gator to be there.
There has been a great white that keeps coming to our shores, which freaks me out.
