DS will be registering for K at our local elementary school. Not sure when we need to do this, but I think we have plenty of time. No idea what the registration fee is if any.

I registered DD1 for kindergarten at our public school. No fees. I did have to register her for after school care - $35 annual registration. The only thing I will have to re-register for annually is the after school program.
DD2 has been registered for a new preschool (September) since January. $150 annual registration and $1,200 up front. Ick.

In January I registered my DS2 for public kindergarten. He is 3.5 now and will be turning 4 the month school starts. I'm in Canada so it's 8:50am - 3:00pm, and he'll go to before/after care (7:30am - 6pm) for $750/month.
Same school for DD1 and DS. DD2 will be moving to the same school her siblings attend. We are unsure if DD2 will be repeating kinder or going to 1st. She was born on the cutoff day (Sept 1st) and went to a charter school this school year. We are leaving the decision up to the public school. So K or 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade.

Registered last month for DD at the same school. She will be going into K. Registration was $400 and independent private school tuition is $8600. Niece will be a sophomore in HS and had the same registration fee and her catholic school tuition is also $8600
I registered the twins for public Kindergarten a few weeks ago. Had to pay $250 per kid. Registered my youngest DS for 5 days a week at his MDO in January for $100.

Why do you have to pay for public kindergarten?
Various fees including field trips, classroom consumable items, computer, yearbook, supply pack, etc.
We are anxiously awaiting notification for private school entry tomorrow. We are fine where we are but applied to our #1 choice (wait listed last year).
Did you find out?? Sorry to pry, I just empathize eith anyone whose process is brutal.
To answer the OPs questions, Yes, we dropped off our deposit last week. New school. Preschool, 3s program. 16k this year-- I think. Blocked this part out.
We registered DS1 for preK 4 at the same school. Registration was $75, tuition is $4600/year.
DS2 is number 12 (!) on the wait list for the next class up at his MDO. We were away the week pre-registration opened up and by the time we got back the wait list was 11 deep. I'm looking into other options.

Wait listed. Which means we got in - which is good. But no space which is bad. Crap. Hopefully some people shuffle and we still get a spot. Otherwise we stay where we're at...which isn't a bad option either. He's in a small private IB school which is great but it lacks in community a little (our #1 choice is where my big kids went and has an amazing community so I have a hard time not comparing) (Man, school is the only thing I'm not breezy about. I wish I was. I really really wish I could be. But I get tied up in knots)
Hugs. I get it. Totally makes me not breezy too. The school we wanted has the community we so desperately crave, so you have all my hugs and good thoughts. I don't know if it's the same where you are, but here (nyc) if you're waitlisted you make it KNOWN how desperately you want it- calls, emails, handwritten notes with family pictures, gift baskets-- anything to keep your name on the tip of their tongue. From one non-breezy to another, that was my waitlist plan.
Registered DD1 for K, she will attend a public school that DS currently attends. He will be in 3rd grade next year and will stay at the same school until 5th grade, it is school of choice so it's not the one in our district. DD2 is going to go to preschool somewhere in the Fall. She turns 3 in October so she cannot attend the one in the elementary school until Fall 2016.
