I should finish up the Gunslinger today and probably Prisoner of Azkaban this weekend. My husband is leaving for SxSW today, so I'll have 5 days to... read and clean my house, basically. Fun, fun.
QOTW: I'm really not a scary movie type of person. I'd rather watch a thriller, I guess, but nothing too gory. I guess Carrie would be an exception. That's something I enjoyed. I haven't even read Stephen King's horror books, though.
I finished Life of Pi last night. I couldn't decide if I liked it or not - lol. Parts were great and parts were tedious. I was surprised by the ending, though. I just started Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. I haven't read him in years but I used to count him among my favorite authors. Odd Thomas has been sitting on my kindle for awhile.
QOTD: Pet Sematary is by far the most horrifying book I've ever read.
Hi there! I've lurked this board for awhile now, and have gotten a number of great book recommendations from you, and have decided to jump in. May I join you ladies? I need a place to nerd out, as my book club only meets once every two months and I would like a place to talk more about books!
I'm currently reading Fourth of July Creek by Smith Henderson. It's been awhile since a book has grabbed me the way this one has, and I can't put it down.
I also listen to an audiobook on my commute, and am currently listening to Sisterland by Curtis Sittenfeld. It's just OK. I hate almost all of the characters, so it's hard.
My goals for the year, if anyone cares: 65 books total 12 audiobooks 53 "book books" In an effort to read more non-fiction, I'm also aiming for 1 out of every 4 books be non-fiction
I've read 11 so far this year, so I'm almost on track.
I look forward to hopefully being more involved in discussions here!
Mrs. Dalloway. I am struggling to pay attention/keep up/stay interested. I think I've realized I'm not good at the "classics" aka anything older than I am.

After tearing through some guilty pleasure romance novels, I am back to reading The Orchid Affair, if I can manage to stay awake long enough to turn a page. I am enjoying it, but I have been so sleepy lately that it's slow going.
QOTW: I'm not really a scary movie or book kind of person. I don't really like stress and I'm not fond of subjecting myself to more voluntarily, you know? But that said, I do have a thing for truly terrible "science fiction" movies like The Savage Bees, Ants, and The Stuff.
Book-wise, I like Mary Stewart's thrillers. They're not too scary, but still dramatic enough for me.
I'm reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown and Medical Apartheid: The Dark History of Medical Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present by Harriet A. Washington.
The Boys in the Boat is really interesting and well written. It combines history with individual stories. I'm enjoying it.
I wouldn't say that I'm enjoying Medical Apartheid, but it is also very well written and well researched. I'm learning a lot. It's not a book that you enjoy, per se, because of the content.
I don't particularly enjoy scary movies or books. The movie Mama creeped me out thoroughly and my husband still finds it hilarious to whisper "mama" in my ear and watch me jump. Jerk.
Oh man! I think I've read Odd Thomas before, I dont rememer it except as it's happening. Guess it didn't make that great of an impression. I think I'll ditch it for something else....Gone With the Wind, maybe?
I started The Death Cure by James Dashner today. It is the third in The Maze Runner series. I have been enjoying the series. Thank goodness, it was a gift from DH and he keeps asking if I like it. He usually chooses well, but there have been misses over the years!
I am not a big fan of scary things. There are plenty of prime time TV shows I can't watch after dark (saved for weekend afternoons). Scariest books for me have been early Mary Higgins Clark, her current stuff does not have the same suspense.
