How flexible is your job? Pretty flexible - I only work part time, 25 hours per week but am not limited to certain hours/days.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? My boss does not care, she only asks that I am there 4 days a week. I can work whatever hours I need to, and I don't need to let her know if I need to change it one week, though of course I do give her a head's up. I typically work M-Th 8:30 - 3:15/3:30 but could come in at 8 or 9 and adjust my leaving time accordingly. Or if I need to leave early one day I can stay late the next to make up the time. If DS is sick on a Monday, I can go in on Friday (my usual day off) instead of taking PTO. It depends on my work load whether or not I do that.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? No working from home. But it is easy to flex hours as needed.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? This hasn't happened, but no they would not hold it against me at all. They are very family friendly and supportive.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Yes, I can, but I try to make appointments for him on my day off since I work part time. But, for example, he has a dentist appointment Wed morning (closed on Fridays) and I will be late that day since Dh has a meeting and can't do it. I'll probably stay a little later (15 - 30 min) a few days this week to make up the time rather than take PTO.
I feel like I hit the jackpot with this job at this point in my life - it is challenging but is not overwhelming, I have flexible hours and super understanding boss and the pay is great. I wish I could take it with me when we move
How flexible is your job? very flexible, the number one reason I turned down a huge opportunity, higher title and more responsibility and stayed at my current job just a few months ago. (I worked that the new job for less than 2 days and knew that I couldn't meet the demands of the job and still see my son).
Clock in? Nope! I am a salaried employee, as such, I am expected to get my work done in however many hours it takes. I have employees who need guidance so I try to be in at the same approximate time each day, but just send them an email if I won't be due to an appointment.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yep. I typically work earlier on tuesdays so I can attend tumbling and during non-year end times I work from home as needed and sometimes 1-2 times a week. I am able to stay home if C is sic.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? I can absolutely stay home the manager's here support one another and would never hold something like this against one another! Heck, I had C the first day of our year-end, in which we had two concurrent audits going on for each of the 4 business units that I oversee. I did all of the schedules/workpapers/PBC's possible before I left, but they had to do the testing piece without me (I worked until 6/28 and had C on 7/1).
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Absolutely. I live 30 miles from my office, its not a quick lunch break to take C to his appointments. I try to schedule him the first or last of the day and make the rest of my time at the office (or work from home) as productive as possible.
How flexible is your job? My employer culture is very flexible. My job is pretty flexible overall, but definitely not the most flexible in the company.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? Expectation seems to be here by around 9, not leave earlier than 3, in general.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yes to both.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? Yes, absolutely. Others would pick up the slack for something like that.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? No issue at all with this.
How flexible is your job? Mostly flexible. My manager is understanding of my need to be at home or work odd hours because I have a young child. My company is supportive of this as well since many people WFH 100% of the time.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? Our contract is written in such a way that we have to work core hours (9-3 I believe) and can pick what other hours to work from there so that we are working an average 8 hour day, at least. However, this is dependent on the client work we're assigned to. My last client didn't want me to arrive any later than 7:30 so I tried to accommodate that even though I didn't have to. It didn't stop her from trying to get me in trouble if I showed up at 7:35 or something. In the year I worked with her I never figured out what the heck was going on at 7:30 that required my presence.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yes, as often as I need. This wasn't always the case, see above.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? Yes, though I'd likely have to apply for the option to go into unpaid status. I have very little PTO and no sick leave. My managers would not hold it against me, nor would my current client. Previous client tried to get me removed from her team after I had a medical emergency at work when I was pregnant. She is, quite literally, the worst.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Yes, absolutely. It is no big deal to my current manager/client. It was even OK with my previous client so long as it was scheduled late in the day and put on her calendar at least a week in advance. Again, she tried to get me in trouble anytime I had an OB appointment that was scheduled prior to 4 pm. I hated her.

How flexible is your job?
somewhat ... they're willing to accommodate changes in hours to accommodate kid schedules but that's where it begins (and ends)
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)?
I've got to clock in by 9a (or as close as traffic lets me do that) and I leave around 5p
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home?
WTH ?!? No, not allowed at all ..... which drives me batty especially if I'm home bc dd is sick.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you?
I would be able to take time off and NOT have it be held against me. This goes to how flexible the firm is.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments?
I've got a pretty liberal amount of sick time that covers my doctor's appts and dd's w/o worrying about going through it. we're both pretty healthy and don't need anything above and beyond basic preventative. when dd was a baby, I'd schedule her pedi appts for Mondays so now xh could take her in (he had off mon and tues) so I wouldn't miss work.
How flexible is your job? Moderately flexible. I can generally come and go as I please (within reason and with work done)
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? Yes, but I'm contract
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yep
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? I don't think they would hold it against me, it's a pretty family friendly company
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Yep.

How flexible is your job? I have to work set hours (8-4:30 M-F) but it's ok to come in late, take an extended lunch or leave early for appointments as needed.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? Salary so no clocking in but I am on a phone queue and are expected to be on at your start time.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? We can work from home as needed but it's a pain. And there is no way I could work from home if DS was there since I am on the phone all day.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? Yes I could take time off but I would have to use family/vacation time. It would not be held against me.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Yes, can use family time for kid appointments (4 days per year). For my own appointments I try and schedule them first thing in the morning or late afternoon. If it's close to work I can take an extended lunch.
How flexible is your job? For our office staff I would say pretty flexible. Core office hours are 8-4 but people are free to start/end based on their needs. I typically am here 7:45ish and out the door 4:30.. 5 at the latest.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? No we do not have to clock in. As long as I am doing my job and attending meetings as needed nobody seems to care exactly what time I get to my desk in the morning. I keep a pretty set schedule mainly because I am anal and used to working in much more strict environments.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yes I usually work from home about 1 day per month. I mainly do it to cover snow days for my DD, day after a business trip, etc. It is VERY nice to have this option when I need it.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? Yes they are extremely supportive of family and meeting family needs.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? I can take appointments whenever I want. I schedule around big meetings/work trips and other things that are set in stone but for the most part I am able to leave for an appointment when I need to.
Overall the work-life balance at my current job rocks. I actually turned down a job offer last month because I ultimately did not want to give that flexibility up.

By your terms, it's very flexible. But yet still very demanding.
I can come and go as I please. No clock, no required facetime, etc. if there is an emergency, I let my secretary know, get any deadlines covered and nbd.
I can work from home. But some things - court appearances, client meetings - can't be done at home. I also recognize the value of facetime and firm participation, and my commute is <10 mins so I come in every day.
But at the same time, I have a required billable minimum that has to be met. So any time that is missed must be made up. I don't get credit for just being logged in or sitting at my desk. I "work" well over 40 hours/week. It's fairly typical that I work nights and weekends from home.

Mine is pretty flexible. There are lots of flex option arrangements you can make. I work 50% of standard hours for 50% of my full-time salary. It's great!
You can work remote if that is part of your arrangement. If you are out for an emergency I believe most people would expect you to use some paid time off, but of course there are exceptions and no one would hold it against anyone.

How flexible is your job?
Fairly flexible in that it's easy to take time off.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)?
I have to be here from X-Y each day unless I have previously arranged for time off.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home?
I don't have a work from home option because we can not access our computer systems remotely.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you?
Of course, time off in this instance is granted without issue. They would not hold it against me. I've also taken time off to be at the hospital with my dad, a coworker has done the same for her mom.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments?
No issue to take time off for illness & appointments for me or my child.
How flexible is your job? I would day it is very flexible
to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)?
No clock in. People roll in from 8:00-8:30. Short of the receptionist its NBD. People leave early if need be for different reaons.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home?
We can WFH one day a week. As far as flex time we can take time off in as much as 4 hour blocks and make it up however we see fit (stay late/early/work through lunch)
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you?
They would not hold that against me.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments?
This falls in flex time. I randomly left at 9:30 this morning for the dentist.
How flexible is your job? Super flexible. Â I WFH full time. Â I have a heavy workload and am absolutely to have childcare outside my home, but as long as I get my work done and am available for meetings, everyone is happy.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? I'm expected to basically be available for the company's normal hours - 830-5pm. Â There is some flexibility here though, as I start at 8 and usually end at 430pm to get O from daycare.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? I work 100% at home, as do most of my peers.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? Without question. Â This would not be held against me. Â When DH's appendix burst and I was stuck in St Croix for a week, I was able to use sick time to cover being OOO (I didn't have my laptop with me or would have worked some), and my boss sent me a $100 GC for grocery delivery (she's the best).
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Absolutely. Â I'm 9 months pregnant and no one bats an eye at the weekly appointments.
I'm incredibly lucky to have this job.
Same for me - except for the appendix and St. Croix trip. I am too lazy to type all out.

Super flexible. I just have to ask myself for a day off or if I can flex my hours 90% of the time I tell myself yes. Sometimes I've got a tight deadline I can't mess around with though.
How flexible is your job? It depends on how we define flexible. My schedule changes each semester, and I have a say in it, but once it's set, it's set in stone. I work an academic schedule, so I have summers off, spring break, etc. I do not technically have sick/vacation/personal time, and depending on the day, taking a day off to care for a sick child (or myself) would be a big deal.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? I have to be at work during classes and office hours; outside of that, I can come and go as I please as long as I get my work done.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? I can't miss class except for emergencies. Anything else is at my discretion. Depending on the day, this either means that it's NBD for me to stay home or it's a really big deal.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? I could easily miss everything except actual class time. I could miss classes a couple of times without too much of an issue, probably, but eventually I'd have to work out arrangements to get my classes covered. Technically, I qualify for FMLA, so I'm ABLE to cancel stuff, but logistically it's difficult to get stuff covered, and not getting stuff covered would eventually come back to haunt me.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? No; I have to schedule them around classes. That's usually not a big deal except at my OB's office because my OB has super limited availability.
This almost exactly. I also teach at the college level, and I am flexible in that I have very few "hard and fast" hours I have to work, but those I do have, are very rigid. This last week, I had to cancel class short notice because I had to take ODS to the hospital for dehydration. It was not a problem, but I obviously can't miss/cancel a ton of class. I very rarely call off.
Interestingly, my husband was written up for coming over to the hospital with me. YDS was with me and was also sick, so I needed help and had no other care. We weren't sure if ODS was going to be admitted. He was right on the border between moderate and severe dehydration. They said, "They have a business to run." I think he needs to seek employment elsewhere.

How flexible is your job?
I'd say it is on the VERY high end of flexibility. I work for a large public university, but I'm paid by a contract with a state agency. Most people in my department rely on various grants/contracts so we're all almost little islands of our own work. I have a boss here who authorizes travel and time off, but he is very removed from my day to day work.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)?
No, barring meetings I pretty much come and go as I please.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home?
Yes, I currently work from home on average 2 days a week. The days I'm home vary some, but I try to work at home Wednesdays and Fridays.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you?
Yes, I can easily take it off. They'd expect me to take it off.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments?
Yes. Last week DS had 2 different appointment - for the first I took a sick day since it was going to be most of the afternoon. The second was just a well-child visit so I took him then worked from home that day. They even understand taking time off for pets (which has been nice because our dogs are old and have required a good deal of vet visits).
The flexibility of my job is one of the things I love most about it. I really like the work I do, but without the flexibility I wouldn't be here.
I truly love my company. We have a female CEO and female VP. Not sure if that's why our culture is the way it is, but we have true unlimited vacation time, I can make my own hours - take whatever time I need, no questions asked as long as I get my work done. I am a project manager.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? As long as I get my work done, I'm good. Most people don't get into the office until 9/9:30, and evenings are anywhere from 5-6
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? I work 100% remotely. I will be forever grateful to my boss's boss for the opportunity
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? I would absolutely be able to take time off, and it wouldn't be held against me. For something short-term I'd probably have to take PTO. For longer term they'd probably recommend FMLA. But I work mostly with people who have kids, and my boss takes a very strong stance on things like "vacation is vacation, not time to check in on work".
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? For the most part. I'm being a good soldier and taking a half day next week for an afternoon appointment for DD. But if she had a quick morning checkup, I'd just tell them I'd be in late and I'd make up the time somehow.
Very flexible, which is surprising given that I work in healthcare. I have set hours but am typically a few minutes late. I try to make apps outside of work hours, but have never had issues leaving early. And if ds was sick it would be expected that I would not be there. When ds was little and not sleeping I was constantly told to take a day off to sleep (I never did it but it was nice to have the offer)
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? I can choose 7:45-3:45 or 8-4. That's it.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? No. I teach first grade. That can't be done from home.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? No it wouldn't be held against me. I would have to use sick days. We get 17 a year so that's a good amount.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? I have to either take the entire day and get a sub or get a morning sub 8-12 or afternoon sub 12-4. So if it's a 11:30 appt I would have to take the whole day. I can just be gone for an hour. It's a 4 hour window or the entire 8 hour day.
I'm a teacher, so in terms of daily hours, our contract is 7:45-3:45, and those are pretty much set. I typically work 7:30-4:00. No official flex hours or WFH, but instead of staying late to get work done, I often bring grading or plan at home.
I would have to use my personal days (3 per year) if I was out with C, but can use sick time for my own illness. We get two weeks for every year teaching-after ML, I think I have about 4.5 weeks left.

How flexible is your job? I would say very.
Do you have to clock in/be at your desk from X-Y each day or is there a bit of flexibility (come in between A-B, leave between C-D)? I can set my own hours within a reasonable time frame.
Are you able to flex your hours or do any work from home? Yes - there are certain things I can do. There are lots of things I have to do in person with teachers, though, so those days must be in the district.
Let's say your child is in the hospital - are you able to take time off to be with your child? Do they hold this against you? I am not sure what this means. If I have sick time, I take the days. If I didn't have sick time, I'd still take the days. I know my superintendent would support me. Even when I was still in the classroom, had my baby early, and was out of sick time there was no issue.
What about doctor's appointments. Are you able to take time off to take yourself/child(ren) to various appointments? Who is going to keep me from going to the doctor? I guess I'm out of touch with how bosses can be. There are lots of things I can't miss but there are plenty of days I can miss to go to the doctor.
I pick my own hours, we have the option of coming in anywhere between 7 and 9. Work 8 hours, go home. I have the ability to come in late one day/work through lunch/leave early on occasion.
I am not allowed to WFH.
If my kid is in the hospital, yes, absolutely. They wouldn't hold it against me.
Doctor's appointments-I usually try to schedule early or late in the day and work through lunch.
