This is so weird to me. I have absolutely no idea how this is going to work out for me.
They obviously haven't put tape on the wall at the Games. How have they judged them there?
elbow lock out but DH said there was a lot of issues at regionals because people were arching their backs. This makes that impossible.Â
I've never even thought about whether or not I arch my back during a hspu. I am far enough away from the wall that I feel stable in the kip, but no farther. I really have no idea if I'll be able to meet the standard or not.

DH says that it means you wouldn't be lifting your body weight as far…so your arms still lock out but you aren't going as high? I don't know but it did happen a lot at regionals, only some judges were being strict, others not as much...
One of the coaches at my gym that does the 5am class says he loves the HSPU standard.
I don't see a problem with it. I get that it makes it harder than how a lot of people usually do them, but it seems like a reasonable way to measure things. Kind of a pain in the ass to set up for everyone individually, but in terms of performing the movement it seems fair..
I reserve the right to revoke this statement if I end up getting HSPU but not getting tall enough to meet the standard

My nutrition coach, who also owns a CF gym, said it would be a good idea to mark your hand placement in the "tall" position so you don't get no-repped.
74 scaled scaled (40/65). I can't lift the RX yet even for scaled, coming back from time off, but I loved this wod. My kind of challenging. I reached complete muscle failure by the last set of cleans.

My HSPU failed me. I did 2 strict then couldn't kip them and needed to. The way I usually kip just would not work with my baby belly. It was awkward and uncomfortable.
Ended up doing the scaled WOD and got 131. Total lung burner for me... My metcon sucks.

I have now tried Rx twice this morning with a grand total of 0 reps. I can now do HSPU with an ab mat under my head. An ab mat, when you have your weight on it, is what, maybe 1 cm thick? So it is supremely frustrating that I have not, in 16 minutes, been able to do even 1 HSPU without that extra cm.
Also my neck is now killing me, and I have to go back this afternoon to do scaled with absolutely zero motivation. Damn, I really thought I was going to get the 3 reps!

I'm in the same boat. But I only did it once. Going back at 3 to do scaled so I can post a score. Sucks because I know I can do them.

Are you trying different kipping techniques? I find that I'm useless with one style but pretty effective with the other (at least I was, pre-baby bump).
Regardless, getting down to one ab mat is still a huge accomplishment for a supremely difficult movement!
I was venting to my boss/owner once about how my pressing strength was more than sufficient to indicate that I am strong enough to do volume HSPU...comparing to hers, where I can press a great % of my bodyweight than she can. But she has 15-20 unbroken STRICT HSPU. I have like 3 strict. THen I need like 5 minutes of recovery.
She gave me all kinds of science on build/body type (I'm nearly 6' tall, she's 5'1, etc) but at the end of the day, she said that I need to get inverted more. Get comfortable upside down. Etc etc. Because mostly she just has significantly better body control upside down that I do. I know that's the truth but gosh darn it I just want strength to be enough sometimes. Damn body control. ;-)

78 scaled which I feel is awful for me but whatever. It's done. At this point if we have to do a burpee/thruster ladder this weekend I'm going to be there forever...and ever....

96 scaled. I beat the other women in my box who did it scaled even with pain on every push press thanks to this morning, so I'll take it. HSPU are going on the "things to get before next year" list!

This isn't 15.4-specific, but let's put it here anyway. So I am a total nerd and decided to compare my performance last year in my region to this year.
First of all, there are a TON more women in LatAm this year - last year shows 23 pages of people who posted at least 1 score, this year is 92 pages so far, and there could be more if some people only post a score for 15.5. But anyway, my rank last year placed me at 85%. This year so far I'm at 17%. Obviously that number depends a ton on other people and not just my own performance (and with the scaled option I'm sure we've got more people at lower levels this year), but it's still a nice little indicator that I'm doing something right!
That's awesome emilyinchile. I didn't do the Open last year (they didn't have scaled anyway did they?) so I have nothing to compare to but I am very very happy with my standing for my region. As of this moment I am in the 130s for my region in the scaled division. I think part of it is because everyone went RX so I don't have as much competition!

No, they didn't. That's why I say my numbers are sort of cheating because I'm sure people signed up this year who wouldn't have done so last year due to skill level, so it's not a straight comparison.
